Uluwatu Temple
Without a doubt, what makes Uluwatu Temple spectacular is its high setting at the edge of a cliff and overlooking the waves of the Indian Ocean. Ulu means the ‘top’ or the ‘tip’ and watu is ‘stone’ or ‘rock’ in Balinese. Several archaeological remains found here prove the temple dates back to around the 10th century. There are 2 entrances to Uluwatu Temple, one from the south and the other from the north. A small forest surrounds the temple where hundreds of monkeys dwell. They are believed to be the loyal guardians the temple. The serpentine pathway to the temple is fortified by concrete walls on the cliff side. It usually takes about an hour to get from one end to another as there are several fenced points along the way where you're surely to take a pause. The views from the bottom of the water surging up against rocks and the ocean horizon are breathtaking. The Balinese Hindus believe that the powers of the Hindu Trinity: Brahma, Vishnu, and Siva, merge here. That belief results in making Uluwatu Temple a place of worship of Siva Rudra, the Balinese Hindu deity of all elements and aspects of life in the universe

Kecak and Fire Dance
The uluwatu Kecak dance performance was very special in addition to being staged in a region that was so sacred to Hindus in Bali, also because the position of the stage or stage where the performance took place was also very spectacular. The stage which was built with a capacity of ± 1400 people is ready to give you a very amazing evening view, where on the cliff that juts into the middle of the sea, approximately 150 meters above sea level stands a sturdy temple that has a very high historical value, namely Uluwatu Temple which built in the XI century. In addition to the right and left of the temple, your eyes will be spoiled by a beautiful view of the cliffs, adding to our admiration for God the creator. The behavior of the monkeys that live freely & wild around the temple will also be very interesting for you to observe, just need to be careful not to get too close to the monkeys because sometimes with the nature of the animals they like to steal something that is considered interesting like a hat , glasses, or earrings.

Wayan helped make our trip to Bali truly memorable
My daughter and I spent three wonderful weeks in Bali and the Gili Islands in fall 2025, and Wayan was a big part of what made our trip so amazing. From the very beginning, he made sure everything went smoothly and that we always felt safe and well taken care of. Whenever we needed help or had a question, he was just a quick WhatsApp message away. At the start of our trip, Wayan took us on an amazing day from Seminyak to Uluwatu — visiting a beautiful beach club, the Monkey Temple, and ending the day with the Kecak fire dance. A few days later, he drove us to Ubud, stopping along the way at the batik, silver, and art markets. While in Ubud, he arranged our whitewater rafting adventure and guided us through the rice fields to the beautiful Pura Tirta Empul (Water Temple). He even organized our fast boat tickets to the Gilis and made sure we got safely to and from the dock near Sanur. We are so grateful to Wayan for his kindness, reliability, and deep knowledge of Bali. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and driver — highly recommended!
