The great Sombai run
Sombai gives a whole other meaning to "some rice please". This rice does not need to be accompanied by Amok or Lok Lak. Sombai is the pure and flavorful essence every rice kernel has at its core, which it did not know they had it in them. Sombai distills this very essence in a beautiful and rich liqour so it can be shared among friends, companions and loved ones. Sombai instills their rice essence with more fruits, herbs and spices than traditionally common. However, breaking with this traditional practice is not blasphemy. It elevates every compononent to a higher level and brings out the full potential of each. Every Sombai taste is carefully created. Made by using complementing ingredients and the unfathomable distilling and recipe-crafting skills of a Khmer " ម៉ែ ". I found myself at Sombai with my closest loved one, unprepared for what tastes we would discover. What started with a tuktuk drive to do an ordinary taste testing would be revealed to be a journey of flavor and a better undestanding of Cambodia and its Khmer people. Sombai delivers, both in its simplicity and its complexity. The question is not if but when you should make the time to visit and taste their beautiful craftsmanship. Just as how the ingredients of Sombai complement eachother, the people working here complement Sombai.
Response from the operator: Thank you, Luuk. We have read this more than once. You began with the name and ended with the people, and everything in between is the part that is hard to explain in an hour, which may be why the hour turned into two. The rice wine is not hidden under fruit and spices, it is given a year to become what it already had in it, and you picked up on that. Calling the step away from tradition something other than blasphemy is generous, and it is how we think of it too. It was a strange and lovely thing to find we had walked the same streets and only met here, and to spend an afternoon laughing with you both. Despite the shop being mid renovation, I am glad we opened it anyway. Enjoy the bottles. Groetjes.

Awesome Rice-wine tasting session!
I recently booked an experience through Rosita, and I couldn't be happier! The conversation was in perfect English, which made it so easy to connect and learn. I was fascinated by the rich history behind each dish we tasted. Every flavor was a delightful surprise. It was truly a memorable experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking to explore new tastes and stories!
Response from the operator: Connor, thank you for this. New tastes and stories is a good way to put it, because every flavour here has something behind it and we would always rather explain that than simply pour. We hope the jam is going down well at home, and see you again before too long.

all around worthy and interesting liqueur tasting experience
A great experience all around, highly recommend! I had a lovely time with friends tasting a variety of locally made liquors, with some very unique flavors. The alcoholic jams were great as well. I especially recommend the Pineapple & Pepper, and the Passion Spices. Worth the experience when in Siem Reap :)
Response from the operator: Ayana, it was so nice to have you. You went straight for the Pineapple & Peppers and the Passion & Spices, and the conversation that came with it made the afternoon. Say hello to your dad, and tell him his jams set a high bar for ours.

I think the experience is interesting. It feels like we have deep understanding in Cambodian ingredients.
Response from the operator: Thank you. Talking through the ingredients is our favourite part, so it is good to hear that came across. Lovely to have had you with us.

How much does Sombai Rice Liqueur Workshop Tour and Tasting in Siem Reap cost?

How long does Sombai Rice Liqueur Workshop Tour and Tasting in Siem Reap take?
+

Is Sombai Rice Liqueur Workshop Tour and Tasting in Siem Reap worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 112 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Siem Reap, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Sombai Rice Liqueur Workshop Tour and Tasting in Siem Reap?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Sombai Rice Liqueur Workshop Tour and Tasting in Siem Reap suitable for kids and families?
+

How far in advance should I book Sombai Rice Liqueur Workshop Tour and Tasting in Siem Reap?
+
Around 39 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Siem Reap can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Siem Reap and add a light layer if any part of the 1.3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Sombai Rice Liqueur Workshop Tour and Tasting in Siem Reap start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Siem Reap within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Siem Reap?
+
On Outty we rank every Siem Reap experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kampong Phluk Floating Village Tour by Boat, Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Tour with Guide from Siem Reap, Angkor Wat Sunrise & 3 Main Temples – Small Group. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Siem Reap?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Siem Reap?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
