Another amazing trip with Iris holidays
This was our second trip from the UK to India using Iris holidays, as our first was so good and this one was just as amazing. Arun from Iris travel was so helpful and supportive when planning this trip (starting and finishing in Bengaluru) making sure we covered all the places we wanted to see and suggesting others too. The hotels selected were all good. We were lucky enough to have the same driver as last year, Mr. Anoop who has been the best. Not only is his driving very safe, he has been a great tour guide and an excellent translator, we can’t thank him enough as he has certainly made this holiday even more enjoyable, we look forward to planning our third trip in the next year or 2. Awesome solo trip thru Kerala
I booked a custom SOLO 9 day Kerala tour and couldn’t be happier. I was looking for a cultural not touristy experience where I could really be immersed in all Kerala had to offer From the initial contact with George Joseph he worked with me to define the perfect itinerary where I stayed in great interesting hotels that were not chains. I stayed in a gorgeous 400 year old mansion in the middle of fort Cochi, a beautiful hotel with a balcony overlooking the Munnar valley, an outstanding houseboat and a balcony room overlooking the ocean outside of Kovalam. Impecabke staff, food and grounds at all. George also assigned me a personal driver, guide, Vipin - Vipin was exceptional. He knew every road, was patient with my picture taking, suggested some additional things to see where we had some extra time and even came with me to see the Munnar sunrise at 5am and to see wild elephants at midnight always making sure I was safe and happy every step of the way. Vipin is the best!!! Overall I am sad to leave. This was just an excellent trip thanks to George and Vipin!! I Highly Recommend!!
Response from the operator: Dear Vipin A, 😊 Thank you so much for your amazing review and for choosing Iris Holidays for your solo Kerala journey! 🌴✨ We’re absolutely delighted to hear that your 9-day custom tour turned out to be such an immersive and fulfilling experience. It’s wonderful to know that **George Joseph** was able to understand your vision of a culturally rich, non-touristy trip and craft the perfect itinerary for you. 💚 Staying in unique properties like the heritage mansion in Fort Kochi, the scenic Munnar stay, the houseboat, and your ocean-view room in Kovalam truly sounds like a magical experience—we’re so glad you enjoyed every bit of it! We’re especially thrilled to hear your kind words about your driver and guide, **Vipin**. 🚗🌟 His dedication, local knowledge, and willingness to go the extra mile—whether it was early morning sunrises 🌄 or late-night wildlife experiences 🐘—are exactly what we aim to deliver. Ensuring your safety, comfort, and happiness throughout the journey is always our top priority, and we’re so happy he made your trip extra special. Your note about feeling sad to leave truly says it all ❤️—and we couldn’t ask for a better compliment! Thank you once again for your trust and for recognizing the efforts of both George and Vipin. If you’re planning your next adventure, we’d love to welcome you back! Please feel free to reach out anytime at +91 9742142994 or [team@irisholidays.com](mailto:team@irisholidays.com). Great Intro to Kerala
Overall, I had a really great experience with the Iris package but the hotels could’ve been better. The route is well thought out. Munnar was a standout for the scenery and weather, and Thekkady was a nice change of pace with the nature and spice plantations. The real highlight, though, was the houseboat stay. It was incredible and easily one of the best parts of the entire trip. Being out on the water, the setting, the food, the whole experience felt unique and memorable. The hotels were a bit mixed, mostly on the lacking side and didn’t fully match expectations. Nothing was bad, but there’s definitely room to improve consistency. Rajesh, my driver, made a big difference. He was reliable, easy to get along with, and knew the routes well. He also made thoughtful stop suggestions based on my interests. Everything felt smooth and stress-free, which is exactly what you want on a multi-day trip. One downside were the tourist traps along the way which seemed pretty common along this route. There were many! The jeep safari add-on for example is certainly a tourist trap. It was marketed as a chance to see wild elephants and other animals in Periyar National Park. But you we never actually enter the park and instead just drive around the perimeter. They also had a new jeep parked in front of the place but once booked, a much older model pulled up. Overall, it’s a well-structured tour that covers a lot without feeling rushed. With better hotel quality and consistency, this would easily be a 5-star experience. As it stands, still a strong option, especially for solo travelers.
Response from the operator: Powered by https://reputeup.ai Dear Z2954TLad, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed and thoughtful review! 🌴✨ We’re really glad to hear that you had a great overall experience exploring Kerala with **Iris Holidays**, especially as a solo traveler — that means a lot to us 😊 It’s wonderful to know that you enjoyed the well-planned route and got to experience the beauty of Munnar 🌄, the charm of Thekkady 🌿, and most importantly, the unforgettable houseboat stay 🛶 — we couldn’t agree more, it’s truly a magical highlight of Kerala! A big thank you for appreciating **Rajesh** 🚗👏 — we’re so happy to hear that his reliability, local knowledge, and thoughtful suggestions made your journey smooth and stress-free. We’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to him. At the same time, we sincerely appreciate your honest feedback regarding the hotel quality and consistency. We apologize that the accommodations didn’t fully meet your expectations. This is certainly an area we are actively working on, and your insights help us improve and refine our partner selections for a more consistent experience. We also understand your concerns about certain tourist stops and the jeep safari experience. We’re truly sorry if this felt misleading — your feedback is very valuable, and we will review these activities more carefully to ensure better transparency and authentic experiences for our guests. We’re really glad that despite these points, you found the trip well-structured, smooth, and enjoyable overall. Your suggestion is spot on, and we’re committed to elevating the experience to a full 5-star standard ⭐ Thank you once again for choosing us and for recommending us as a strong option for solo travelers 🙏 For your future trips, feel free to reach us anytime at **+91 999 500 4276** or **[team@irisholidays.com](mailto:team@irisholidays.com)** — we’d love to make your next experience even better! Great tour but with a few glitches.
Overall I really enjoyed this trip and it was very good value. I reached places in Kerala I would have struggled to explore without such a tour. It was somewhat chaotic, hence the review lost a star. The itinerary changed from that advertised, which did not suit me. This was however quickly corrected. I struggled a bit again to get a suitable hotel in Cochin at the end of the trip. Again a solution appeared which I was delighted with. However it involved a lot of email correspondence during the trip! My driver Benny was truly skilled and I felt safe as he negotiated the traffic on narrow roads and streets. He remained delightful, cheerful, calm and patient throughout. Unfortunately his English was limited (and my Malayalam non-existent) so this led to communication problems and at times added to the chaos. The houseboat experience at the end was wonderful - peaceful and calming after the crowds and the busyness of the cities and tourist attractions. The visit to Thekkady included an option to visit Elephant Junction. I have strong ethical reservations about “tame” elephants, and have found evidence that despite their image of strength, being forced to carry people causes spinal damage and pain. This is of course a personal view, but most people seem unaware of the issues, so I question whether any tour company should be offering this. The hotels were of a very good standard and comfortable. The hotel in Cochin I was originally allocated for my last night (admittedly at the last minute due to itinerary change) had very poor reviews (“horrible” in one!) but fortunately I picked this up on time and avoided an unpleasant experience on my last night in Kerala.
Response from the operator: Dear Carolyn 🌸, Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review, and for choosing Iris Holidays for your solo Kerala private tour ⭐⭐⭐⭐. We truly appreciate feedback from experienced travelers like you—especially as a senior contributor with 12 contributions and 8 helpful votes—your insights are incredibly valuable to us 🙏✨. We’re delighted to hear that you overall enjoyed the trip, found it good value, and were able to explore parts of Kerala that would have been difficult to access independently 🌴🛶. It’s especially wonderful to know that the houseboat experience was peaceful and calming—a perfect way to unwind after the buzz of cities and attractions 💚😌. That said, we sincerely apologize for the chaos and last-minute changes you experienced during your journey 🙏. While we’re glad our team was able to quickly correct the itinerary and eventually arrange a hotel in Cochin that you were happy with, we completely understand how the volume of emails during the trip could detract from the overall experience. Your feedback highlights an important area where we can improve smoother, more proactive on-trip communication. A special thank you for acknowledging Benny, your driver 🚗🌄. We’re thrilled to hear that you felt safe and well cared for by his calm, cheerful, and patient nature. We do, however, acknowledge the communication challenges due to language barriers and appreciate your understanding—this is something we continue to actively work on, especially for our international guests. We also respect and genuinely appreciate you sharing your ethical concerns regarding Elephant Junction 🐘. Your perspective is thoughtful and important, and feedback like this helps us reflect deeply on the experiences we offer and how they align with responsible and ethical tourism. We’re glad you found the hotels comfortable and of good standard overall, and we’re relieved that the issue with the initially allocated Cochin hotel was caught in time—your last night in Kerala should always end on a high note 🌅✨. Thank you once again for your honesty, balance, and kind words. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and offer you an even smoother, more seamless Kerala experience 🌍💚. Tour of Kerala with driver Sinto
We arranged a 6-day, 5-night tour of Kerala with George Joseph from Iris Holidays. It was easy to schedule with George and he quickly accommodated updates as our plans changed. The tour included a car and our wonderful driver Sinto. Although we are experienced travelers having Sinto look out for us and offering options made traveling easier. Highlights of the trip were: - Eravikulam National Park where we spotted dozens of Nigili Tahr. - A guided hike through a tea plantation, (was going to do a longer trek to a peak but rain was in the forecast) - Bamboo rafting and trekking in Periyar Tiger Reserve which includes LEECHES! The park does outfit you with protective gear and only had one draw blood. - Attended a Kathakali Performance which we were both surprised how much we enjoyed it. Assumed it was going to be one of those “tourist” shows with all westerners in attendance but the majority of the audience were from India. The only experience I wished we had skipped was the houseboat with Backwater Brook. Little communication on what was happening and a good portion of the trip was on a big lake.
Response from the operator: Dear M N, Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review! 🌟 We’re delighted to hear that your 6-day Solo Kerala Tour was filled with memorable experiences — your reflections truly made our day! 😊💚 A warm shout-out to George Joseph, who helped schedule and adjust your plans quickly and smoothly 🗓️✨ He’ll be glad to know his flexibility made your trip planning easy and stress-free. And of course… a big appreciation for Sinto, your wonderful driver ⭐🚗 We’re so happy to hear how his care, guidance, and thoughtful suggestions made your journey more comfortable, even as seasoned travelers. He’ll be touched to know he made such a positive impact on your Kerala experience! Your trip highlights sound absolutely amazing: 🌿 Spotting Nilgiri Tahr at Eravikulam National Park 🍃 A scenic guided tea plantation hike 🚣♂️ Bamboo rafting and trekking at Periyar (leeches and all!) 🎭 Enjoying a surprisingly delightful Kathakali performance We love that Kerala’s diversity of experiences resonated with you so deeply. Regarding your houseboat experience — thank you for sharing this honestly 🙏 We’re truly sorry to hear that the communication from the operator fell short and that parts of the journey didn’t meet your expectations. Your feedback is extremely valuable, and we’ll be reviewing this with the houseboat provider to ensure guests receive clarity, comfort, and a more enriching backwater experience going forward. 💛 We deeply appreciate you choosing Team Iris Holidays, and we’re grateful for the time you took to share such a balanced and thoughtful review. It helps us grow and serve future travelers even better. Why this scores 79
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Solo Kerala Private Tour Package ( 5 Nights) - Munnar, Thekkady, Houseboat: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kochi.
How much does Solo Kerala Private Tour Package ( 5 Nights) - Munnar, Thekkady, Houseboat cost?
+
Prices start at $610 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kochi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Solo Kerala Private Tour Package ( 5 Nights) - Munnar, Thekkady, Houseboat take?
+
Plan for about 144 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kochi is not rushed.
Is Solo Kerala Private Tour Package ( 5 Nights) - Munnar, Thekkady, Houseboat worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 79 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 49 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kochi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Solo Kerala Private Tour Package ( 5 Nights) - Munnar, Thekkady, Houseboat?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Solo Kerala Private Tour Package ( 5 Nights) - Munnar, Thekkady, Houseboat suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 144-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Solo Kerala Private Tour Package ( 5 Nights) - Munnar, Thekkady, Houseboat?
+
Around 17 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kochi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kochi and add a light layer if any part of the 144-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Solo Kerala Private Tour Package ( 5 Nights) - Munnar, Thekkady, Houseboat start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kochi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kochi?
+
On Outty we rank every Kochi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour, Local Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour, Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour with Pickup From Cruise Ships. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kochi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kochi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
