Chinese Fishing Nets
Chinese fishing nets(Cheena vala)are a type of stationary lift net in India. They are fishing nets that are fixed land installations for fishing. While commonly known as Chinese fishing nets in India, the more formal name for such nets is shore operated lift nets. Huge mechanical contrivances hold out horizontal nets of 20m or more across. Each structure is at least 10m high and comprises a cantilever with an outstretched net suspended over the sea and large stones suspended from ropes as counterweights at the other end which is operated by a team of up to six fishermen. While such nets are used throughout coastal southern China and Indochina, in India they are mostly found in the Indian cities of Kochi and Kollam, where they have become a tourist attraction. This way of fishing is unusual in India and almost unique to the area, as it was introduced by Chinese explorers who landed there in the 14th century. Indeed, one interpretation of city name Kochi is ‘co-chin', meaning like China

The Best Way to Discover the Real Kochi – An Unforgettable Experience with Shihab! Our experience with Shihab’s Legendary Kochi Tuk Tuk Tour was honestly one of the highlights of our entire trip to Kerala. If you are visiting Kochi and want to experience the city like a local rather than simply visiting the usual tourist attractions, we highly recommend taking a tour with Shihab. From the very beginning, Shihab made us feel welcome and comfortable. He is extremely friendly, polite, knowledgeable, and passionate about his city. It was clear that this is not just a job for him — he genuinely loves Kochi and enjoys sharing its history, culture, traditions, food, and everyday local life with visitors. Exploring Fort Kochi by tuk-tuk with Shihab was a wonderful experience. He took us through the charming streets and showed us famous landmarks as well as interesting local places that we would probably have missed if we had explored on our own. Along the way, he explained the history and stories behind the places we visited, which made everything much more meaningful and interesting. One of the things we appreciated most was that Shihab never made us feel rushed. He was patient and flexible and always considered what we wanted to see and experience. He also gave us excellent recommendations for local food, shopping, spices, fabrics, souvenirs, and other authentic Kochi experiences. The tuk-tuk itself made the tour even more enjoyable. Riding through the narrow streets of Fort Kochi, seeing the colourful buildings, meeting local people, and experiencing the atmosphere of the city from a tuk-tuk gave us a completely different perspective of Kochi. Shihab is also an excellent photographer! He helped us take some great photos during the tour and made sure we went home with wonderful memories of our time in Kochi. What makes Legendary Kochi Tuk Tuk Tour special is the personal attention. Shihab treats his guests like friends rather than customers. His kindness, honesty, local knowledge, and genuine hospitality made us feel very comfortable throughout the entire experience. We have taken sightseeing tours in different places, but this one felt much more personal and authentic. It was not simply a tour — it was an opportunity to see Kochi through the eyes of someone who truly knows and loves the city. If you are coming to Kochi, especially Fort Kochi, do not miss the opportunity to explore the city with Shihab. Whether you are interested in history, culture, local food, shopping, photography, or simply want to experience the real atmosphere of Kochi, Shihab can create a memorable experience for you. A huge thank you to Shihab for his wonderful hospitality and for giving us such beautiful memories of Kochi. We would happily recommend him to anyone visiting Kerala.
Response from the operator: It was wonderful meeting you! Thank you for choosing Legendary Kochi Tuk Tuk Tour and for your fantastic review. I'm so happy you had a great time exploring Kochi. Hope to see you again soon! Best wishes,

Why this scores 96
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Kochi Tuk-Tuk Sightseeing Tour with Cruise Ship Pickup: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kochi.
How much does Kochi Tuk-Tuk Sightseeing Tour with Cruise Ship Pickup cost?
+
Prices start at $14 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kochi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Kochi Tuk-Tuk Sightseeing Tour with Cruise Ship Pickup take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kochi is not rushed.
Is Kochi Tuk-Tuk Sightseeing Tour with Cruise Ship Pickup worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 96 out of 100, which we label "Peak Performance". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 302 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Kochi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are. Scoring 90 or above puts it in the Outty 90+ Club, the top tier of everything we rank.
Can I cancel or reschedule Kochi Tuk-Tuk Sightseeing Tour with Cruise Ship Pickup?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Kochi Tuk-Tuk Sightseeing Tour with Cruise Ship Pickup suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Kochi Tuk-Tuk Sightseeing Tour with Cruise Ship Pickup?
+
Around 106 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kochi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kochi and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Kochi Tuk-Tuk Sightseeing Tour with Cruise Ship Pickup start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kochi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kochi?
+
On Outty we rank every Kochi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour, Local Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour, Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour with Pickup From Cruise Ships. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kochi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kochi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
