Great communication...
Great communication prior, letting me know when and where they were on the way to pick me up. It was a small group so there was plenty of opportunity to talk one on one w/ the guide and learn more about the elephants. The lunch was fantastic and delicious.

Excellent elephant sanctuary choice
Wonderful to feed the elephants, learn about their feeding habits and see them covering themselves in mud before a dip in the lovely river. Many photo ops and Boy, the guide, was friendly and could answer many questions about the elephants

Elephant Experience
We had a wonderful tour with our guide, Boy. Since we were staying inside the Old City, we were conveniently picked up right at our hotel. On the drive to the sanctuary, we made a quick stop so everyone could grab anything they might need. As we approached, we could already see the elephants from the road, which built up the excitement. Once the experience began, guests were offered a uniform shirt to protect their clothes—I’d recommend wearing it, as a precaution. At this point it’ll be good to apply mosquito spray. The first activity was feeding the elephants. The staff provided baskets filled with food, and the elephants were so gentle that feeding them felt easy and fun. Afterward, we learned more about their habits and care. Next, we helped prepare nutrient-rich food balls. One guest volunteered to use a manual machine to pound the raw ingredients, while others mixed everything together before forming the balls. We then crossed the road to the river, where the water was clean and refreshing. Watching the elephants play in the water was a highlight, and we even got to help bathe them by tossing water over their backs. Afterward, they used the dirt before heading back to the sanctuary. Before lunch, we had another chance to feed some of the elephants. The meal provided was simple but satisfying. Overall, this is a small operation that offers a more intimate and personal experience with the elephants—something we truly appreciated.

This excursion was such a memorable adventure. It was incredibly fun getting to engage with the elephants and observe the beautiful environment they live in. You can really feel how well they’re cared for, and being able to interact with them up close made the experience even more special. I also got some amazing photos with the elephants that I’ll treasure.

Why this scores 65
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Smile Elephant Chiangmai (Half day Visit): questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Chiang Mai.
How much does Smile Elephant Chiangmai (Half day Visit) cost?
+
Prices start at $1000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chiang Mai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Smile Elephant Chiangmai (Half day Visit) take?
+
Plan for about 5.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Chiang Mai is not rushed.
Is Smile Elephant Chiangmai (Half day Visit) worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 17 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Chiang Mai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Smile Elephant Chiangmai (Half day Visit)?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Smile Elephant Chiangmai (Half day Visit) suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 4. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 5.5-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Smile Elephant Chiangmai (Half day Visit)?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chiang Mai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chiang Mai and add a light layer if any part of the 5.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Smile Elephant Chiangmai (Half day Visit) start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chiang Mai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Chiang Mai?
+
On Outty we rank every Chiang Mai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half-Day Thai Cooking Class at Organic Farm in Chiang Mai, Full Day Thai Cooking at Farm (Chiang Mai), Thai and Akha Cooking Class in Chiang Mai. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Chiang Mai?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Chiang Mai?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
