    Amazing snorkel

It was a great experience. The captain was great at positioning us to get us close to the whale sharks. I would definitely recommend doing the whale shark snorkel, it was so much fun!

    18th! Birthday with whale sharks!

Amazing experience! 10/10 recommend captain whale shark! I came here as a birthday celebration! I would definitely do it again. The crew was so incredible, and kind. My mom was a little bit nervous and one of the guys held her hand the entire time in the water. Whale sharks were such Beautiful and gentle creatures. It was so cool to be so close to them. We saw dolphins and turtles as well. Isla Mujeres was so fun! They provided drinks and fresh fruit and ceviche after and we got to swim in shallow water. Overall incredible!

    Once in the lifetime experience

The tour with Martin and his skipper was excellent and one of the highlights on our tour through Yucatan! We had a great time and have seen the giant whale sharks so close, on top have seen dolphins. They were very helpful to our kids and to the slightly handycapped brother of my wife. Also the pictures and videos they made during the trip are very professional. Thanks so much to you both!!

    A super whale shark experidnce

This trip was the highlight of our family reunion. We had two private boats for 8 adults and 8 children. Both boats and captains were excellent! Lots of shade and fast boats for the 30 mile ride out to see these beautiful fish. The captains and crew put us right on many whale sharks and we all had 4-5 snorkels. The beach visit was also great and lunch with fresh ceviche was excellent. I highly recommend this company. The videos they took were also excellent.

Response from the operator: Thank you for choosing CaptainWhaleShark for your family reunion, and we're so happy to hear that it was the highlight of your trip! Creating memorable experiences for our guests is what we strive for. Your recommendation means the world to us. We hope these memories will stay with your family for a long time, and we look forward to welcoming you all back for more adventures in the future. Thank you for your kind words and for sharing this wonderful experience with us!

Mixed review. Whale sharks- 5 stars. Boat maintenance- 0.

We paid for a private tour. They put us on a janky boat with no sun-shade in the front. It was clear to us 20 minutes in that one motor was failing, but they kept pushing, slapping waves and sputtering until we finally stopped. Other boats to the rescue- only by bringing oil- and so much oil poured into the broken motor (not a real fix, just pouring oil into the ocean). We eventually got into the area with the beautiful fish, and were rushed into the water (being several hours late). Noa dove with us, and he was great. He filmed us, helped people that were having difficulty getting used to the experience. After the swim- we were put onto 2 separate boats, (having to jump from one boat to another- seas weren't calm by the way), cramming in with other passengers. Both of these boats DID have ample shades up, and DID have working motors! But there was no communication, and the captain of one boat gave us misinformation. Finally, our split up group reconvened and enjoyed Playa Norte. We were finally put on a new boat, which also seemed in better condition and had a sunshade. What an adventure. The last crew that was very helpful were Alberto and Guillermo (Billy). Our first crew included Noa, who was helpful in the water. (Although he did transfer the GoPro photos we paid for while on the boat, but my phone later broke and we requested an email with the transfer and that never came). All and all a mixed trip, many highlights, and we did meet our planned goal. I don't think I would go back with this company, or if I did, have some serious concern about the boat maintenance and back up plan.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your experience with us, and we apologize for the challenges you encountered during your tour. We take your feedback seriously as it helps us improve our services. Safety is our utmost priority, and we're disappointed that you had to experience this inconvenience. This is certainly not the experience we aim to provide. We appreciate your acknowledgment of the efforts made by our crew. Your positive feedback about their assistance and support is noted. Your feedback has been shared with our team, and we will take the necessary steps to ensure that such issues are minimized in the future.

Small Group Swim with Whale Sharks Tour with or without lifevest: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cancun.

How much does Small Group Swim with Whale Sharks Tour with or without lifevest cost?

    +

Prices start at $169 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cancun usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Small Group Swim with Whale Sharks Tour with or without lifevest take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cancun is not rushed.

Is Small Group Swim with Whale Sharks Tour with or without lifevest worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 28 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cancun, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Small Group Swim with Whale Sharks Tour with or without lifevest?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Small Group Swim with Whale Sharks Tour with or without lifevest suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Small Group Swim with Whale Sharks Tour with or without lifevest?

    +

Around 10 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cancun can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cancun and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Small Group Swim with Whale Sharks Tour with or without lifevest start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cancun within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cancun?

    +

On Outty we rank every Cancun experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Early Access to Chichen Itza All Inclusive with Valladolid and Cenote Swim, Whale Shark Tour from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Riviera Maya, Small-Group 3 Hidden Cenotes Adventure with Tequila Tasting. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cancun?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cancun?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
