A Must Do Sintra Tour with Alfonso!

We had the most amazing tour with Afonso. He was so knowledgeable at every stop. We learned so much and it really added to the enjoyment of our tour. He was also very polite and respectful driver. Can’t say enough good things about him. Impressive young man!

Interesting and Disappointing
This could have been an excellent day. However Cooltours, the service provider I selected for this day, which has 5 ⭐️ review transferred this to another provider. We got a very young and new guide. He was OK for the Regaleira, which is amazing. We had to rush there because a part of the group had interior tickets for Pena Palace, which is timed. I do NOT recommend interior Pena Palace at all. I told the guide I do not want to go into a church and he insisted on me going into the chapel saying I would like it. I did not. He did recommend a great place for lunch in Sintra. The final stop was Cascais. The guide knew almost nothing about this amazing historic town other than the fortress and that a soccer playing is building a house. Did not know about Ian Fleming and the spy stories that emerged from CasCais, nor about the role played during the expulsion or WWII. The afternoon was disappointing. That being said, the Regalieria at the beginning is fabulous and worth it. In hindsight, I would do a half day Sintra and take a train and hire a guide for walking tour in CasCais for its own magic. It’s a beautiful seaside town.
