What you'll see and do
Troms
We meet in Tromso, but we travel where the sky is the best! This tour is specifically designed to maximize your chances of seeing the Northern Lights—a natural phenomenon that cannot be guaranteed. The weather around Tromsø can be unpredictable, with challenging road conditions and frequent cloud cover. These are the key reasons to join a tour with experienced guides who are familiar with the region and skilled at interpreting weather forecasts. This is not a typical sightseeing tour; instead, it’s a dynamic chase to find clear skies, stars, and hopefully the Northern Lights. Once we reach a location with stable and clear skies, we’ll set up a cozy bonfire surrounded by seating. You’ll be served warm soup and hot chocolate as you relax under the night sky. While you enjoy the magical display, our professional photographers will capture the moment. After the tour, you’ll receive free low-resolution photos—perfect for sharing on social media.

Best aurora chasing in Tromso
Amazing night with our guide Sebastian chasing auroras. He took us to the perfect spot and we had a unforgettable night!

Seriously, no joke best Aurora Tour in Tromsø!
sebastian - i don’t know how he manage it all but he’s the man! he is our tour guide, our driver, our photographer, our chef (he prepared hot choc, hot drinks, hot soup for us!), setup bon fire all single handedly. he is full or energy, even in this freezing weather, out for 5-6hrs. he also share a lot of his experiences, stories which were really enlightening. THIS IS THE BEST TOUR OUT OF the 3 tours i booked for my Tromsø trip. Steam Tours team, especially sebastian were very professional, i like the mini tour group, its much more personal. the booking is easy, the pick up was on time, the journey was pleasant. thermal jacket n boots were provided, and they were in clean and good condition. i strongly suggest this tour! book early as they have limited availability. we managed to get the best of aurora lights thanks to his experience and knowledge around the area. good photographs were taken, which were shared immediately with us!

Best northern lights guide and photographer!!!
Sebastian was an incredible guide! We loved that he checked in advance on the weather and decided to take us on a little hike out onto a lake, in a secluded spot for our small group tour. It was an intimate and unforgettable experience! The moment the skies suddenly cleared and the lights showed up everywhere was quite magical! I can't imagine doing this with big groups or in places where other tour groups were also camped. He's also great photographer and he managed to capture really amazing photos of me and my family with the lights in the background! These will be lifelong memories for years to come! We loved the nice campfire that Sebastian built and also the hot soup and hot chocolate he made for us whilst we waited patiently for our light show. We really enjoyed the experience and excitement of the night! We especially enjoyed the conversations we had with him in his car. Thank you for such an unforgettable night Sebastian! We are so glad we booked with you!

Why this scores 80
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Small Group Northern Lights Chase with Campfire Meal and Photos: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tromso.
How much does Small Group Northern Lights Chase with Campfire Meal and Photos cost?
+
Prices start at $147 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tromso usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Small Group Northern Lights Chase with Campfire Meal and Photos take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tromso is not rushed.
Is Small Group Northern Lights Chase with Campfire Meal and Photos worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 61 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tromso, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Small Group Northern Lights Chase with Campfire Meal and Photos?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Small Group Northern Lights Chase with Campfire Meal and Photos suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Small Group Northern Lights Chase with Campfire Meal and Photos?
+
Around 21 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tromso can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tromso and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Small Group Northern Lights Chase with Campfire Meal and Photos start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tromso within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tromso?
+
On Outty we rank every Tromso experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights Minibus Chase from Tromsø with Chasing Lights, Northern Lights Big Bus Chase with Chasing Lights, Tromsø Northern Lights Chase We Go Where The Lights Appear. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tromso?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tromso?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
