DO NOT sleep in Uros

We want to convey our unhappiness with the 2-day tour of the islands of Uros. We summarize our experience. We arrived at 10 o'clock at the island of uros where we stayed. We spent 1 hour doing nothing, we had to be the ones to ask the family when the activities started. That said, we took a boat ride of about 20 minutes and were dropped off on an island where we were given an explanation of literally 7 minutes of how the islands were made. Then came an awkward moment when all they were trying to do was sell us souvenirs. Since they saw that we did not buy anything they gave us a walk with the traditional totora boat of another 20 minutes for 15 soles per person. At 12 we returned to the island where we stayed, we ate at 13:00 (we were not offered anything to drink during lunch) and from then until 17:30 we had "free time" that sums up in being in the room without being able to do practically anything (because you cannot go between islands without boat). What they did offer, at an additional cost for a change, was a museum (10 soles per person) of totora figures and Kayaking (100 soles). At 17:30 we went to set up a net to fish (most interesting of all day and last 15 minutes). Back on the island again "free time" until 19:30 we had dinner and after that more "free time" until the next morning. In 24 hours of "travel" we did 2:30 hours of activities. It makes no sense to sleep on the island (which is not the most comfortable thing in the world; we doubt very much that the sheets were clean) to waste several hours with the number of things that can be done and seen in Peru. In addition, we were charged 2 small bottles of water for 5 soles each (not even in Gaston Acurio you get them for that price). The second day we visited the island of Taquile which was good. Therefore, our recommendation to anyone I asked is NOT to take the 2-day Tour. With 1 is more than enough; you save money and time and gain comfort.

    AMAZING!

We stayed with Cristina and her husband Victor on their floating reed island (Isla Khantati) for 1 night and it was one of the highlights of our 2-week trip to Peru. Their pricing includes transportation (taxi) to/from your hotel in Puno, boat ride to their island, private cabin with private bathroom on their island, lunch, dinner, and breakfast, as well as certain activities. Victor will take you out on his reed boat to teach you about how their island is constructed from the reeds, as well as how the people that live on the reed islands fish, hunt birds, and live. Cristina will show you traditional clothing that their people wear and will even let you try them on (if you want to). Her and her husband speak Spanish, Aymara, and a little bit of English. The cabin that we stayed in had one of the most comfortable beds that we slept in the whole time we were in Peru. The bathroom was very nice as well, but we warned that it has a compost toilet and solar powered hot water for the shower. Definitely not for people who are used to 5-star hotels, but since we don't really fit in with the 5-star hotel crowd, it was perfect for us! Also, please note that Cristina is one of the BEST cooks we met in Peru. EVERYTHING that she prepared for us was amazing, fresh, and enough to fill you up for the whole day! There is plenty of space on the island to rest and relax with plenty of umbrellas made from reeds and comfy chairs to nap in. There's even a sweet island cat named Mishka that will snuggle you if you wish. We would definitely recommend staying on Isla Khantati! You will not regret it! Take your camera and enjoy disconnecting from normal society! Be advised that there is no internet on the island and charging plugs are limited. Do not expect to come here and get on Facebook, Netflix, etc. Just unplug and enjoy the beautiful nature that surrounds you!

Response from the operator: Dear Customer We are really happy that you have enjoyed sleeping in Uros, we are sure that it will be an experience that you will never forget. On the other hand, we want to thank you for the time it has taken to tell us your experience.

    AWESOME GATEWAY

What a nice quite place to set your mind into right direction. Meet nice people at the campfire. has everything you need and even more. like astonishing sunsets and sunrises. Get ready to the lack of oxygen, two of my friends had that issue so get used to it in advance.

Response from the operator: Dear Andriy We are very happy that you liked your trip with Inca Lake and we appreciate for having given you a time to write a comment. And also give a recommendation for other passengers.

The stay was nice, but this booking company was very overpriced. Another couple paid half the advertised price through another agency and got the same experience. Recommend booking elsewhere. We didn’t fish as advertised but instead helped the family move a house.

We loved the experience on the...

We loved the experience on the island with Elsa and Juan and their daughter, Sarita. We speak some Spanish, but we felt we needed a guide to help smooth things out. Francisco did a great job. If you have excellent Spanish, you may be able to do this without the guide. He functioned mostly as an interpreter. For us, he was a needed addition and made the experience fun and memorable. He brought us to one of the schools and allowed us to meet students and teachers. I doubt this is a common occurrence with these tours, but it was meaningful to our children and our family my husband is a teacher.

Sleep on Uros Island: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puno.

How much does Sleep on Uros Island cost?

    +

Prices start at $169 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puno usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Sleep on Uros Island take?

    +

Plan for about 48 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puno is not rushed.

Is Sleep on Uros Island worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.4/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puno, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Sleep on Uros Island?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Sleep on Uros Island suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 48-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Sleep on Uros Island?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puno can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puno and add a light layer if any part of the 48-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Sleep on Uros Island start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puno within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Puno?

    +

On Outty we rank every Puno experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tour to Uros and Taquile Islands in a Fast Boat, Uros and Taquile Speedboat Day Tour in Small Group, Uros and Taquile Islands on New and Comfortable SpeedBoat. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Puno?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Puno?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

What is included in Sleep on Uros Island?

    +

Included: Local guide (Spanish only); Lunch; Dinner; Breakfast; and Overnight accommodation. Not included: Drinks. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.

Does Sleep on Uros Island include hotel pickup?

    +

Yes, pickup is offered for every traveler from 52 listed pickup locations in and around Puno. Be ready about 15 minutes before the start time. You can also enter a custom pickup address when booking.

What languages is Sleep on Uros Island offered in?

    +

It runs in Spanish. Pick your language when choosing a date and time, as not every departure runs in every language.

Will I get instant confirmation and a mobile ticket for Sleep on Uros Island?

    +

Confirmation is sent by the operator after booking, usually within 48 hours; if it is not confirmed you are not charged. Mobile tickets are accepted, so you can show the voucher on your phone.

Is Sleep on Uros Island wheelchair or stroller accessible?

    +

The operator notes: Infants are required to sit on an adult’s lap. If accessibility is critical, contact the operator after booking to confirm arrangements for your date.

What happens to Sleep on Uros Island if the weather is bad?

    +

It generally runs rain or shine, so dress for the forecast in Puno. Standard cancellation terms apply: free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start.
