Its creation was the result of the archaeological excavations carried out by the Templo Mayor Project in its first season, between 1978 and 1982, which were made under the direction of Eduardo Matos Moctezuma and allowed to recover a collection of more than 7,000 objects, as well as the vestiges of the Templo Mayor of Tenochtitlan and some surrounding buildings. All this gave rise to the initiative of building a site museum to exhibit the collection and, at the same time, complement the visit of the archaeological area.

Horrid experience.
Horrendous experience. The booking went ok. Received a confirmation number from TravelAdvisor and Viator. But I could not get the actual tickets. Whenever I used the link to 'Get Tickets' I either got a blank screen or 'Sorry, something went wrong. Try again.' Has signed up for a guided tour. At no point was I contacted by the guide service despite messages I sent to whoever it was - never got a name. Went to the venue next day with what I had but could not get in. After 3p minutes of hoping for a guide to show up and trying to get the tickets, the QR code tickets FINALLY appeared. Still no guide or contact so we went into the venue in our own. Hoping to get full refund but very doubtful that will happen. The contacts I could find for TripAdvisor and Viator so far have not worked. Will avoid booking this way in future if at all possible. I will add that a separate booking I made through Viator for transportation went smoothly. Perhaps what's missing in their (TA or Viator) is an emergency contact number or chat.

Templo Mayor
Templo Mayor was our top four museums. Fortunately we arrived at the right time and were grateful to have purchased the line skip. Staff is very attentive and process was easy. Simple bag search and a pass of metal detector.

WARNING Do not book with them!!!
The way Templo Mayor works is that you stand in line and buy tickets, then you go in. When you book this service, basically you are paying someone to stand in line and buy the tickets for you. The tickets are about 6 dollars. So this premium of $30 is for the person’s work. We did not get tickets in person, we got two online QR code tickets. At first I thought, “wow, they have advanced booking now for foreigners, cool!” However, when we got to Templo Mayor, we found out that the museum had been closed all week due to safety reasons. Most museums were closed due to a teacher protest and camp out In México’s Historical District. We were never notified by the tour guide this was happening, we were never offered a reimbursement or to reschedule the date. This vendor seems scammy… I am requesting a refund from Viator and strongly suggest this vendor is flagged by the company as a potential fraudster.

I bought this ticket on Viator and the museum would not let me in. I tried to show them the confirmation booking reference etc and after 30 minutes of trying I still did not get into the museum
