    About this experience

The city of Pompeii, settled at the Volcano Vesuvius slopes, had been buried during the 79 BC Vulcanic eruption. Today, after more than 2000 years from that natural disaster, you can enter and walk around one of the oldest cities in the world. Your guide will lead you at the discovery of the highlights of the Greek-Roman settlement. Be ready to live a full-immersive experience into the ancient customs and traditions, all spiced up with “gossip” and stories of the main characters of the time. Among the main features, your will see the "Palestra" (gym), the theatres, the Temple of Isis, the Baths, the Forum, the House of Menander, and the Lupanariae. Then, walking a little off the beaten track, you will explore the new open domus - the houses of aristocracy of the Romans times: The Domus of Venus; the house of Octavius Quartius; the house of the fruit trees; the house of Giulia Felice, a modern woman who used her rooms as a SPA and rented them for parties.

    Our tour of Pompei

Castello was the best tour guide I have ever had. He explained the ruins that I felt like I was listening to an intriguing storybook. I feel I captured more retained information than I have from past tours. 5 stars Excellent!

Response from the operator: Hello, Cathy! Catello has been really happy to read your words - and I have to admit that he really knows how to capture the attention and imagination of our guests! He was born to be a tour guide! Thank you for sharing your experience with us! See you next time you will be in Italy!

    Sorrento

Highly recommend Giulia and her company for booking private transfers to go to Sorrento or Amalfi. Very quick to reply to any questions and the driver Lisa was amazing. We also did a private tour to Pompeii with our guide Roberta and she was so informative and kept the kids interested. Can’t go wrong booking with this company. 5 stars for sure.

Response from the operator: Hi, there! Thank you for the compliments to our staff. Giulia is one of the top-rated members of the team, and she is great in coordinating guides and drivers - and I am sure she has done her best to offer you the best service. Roberta and Lisa as well are really professional, and always aim to your satisfaction! Thank you so much for your words, and see you next time you will be in Italy! Ciao! =)

The best way to see Pompeii

This tour was fantastic from beginning to end. Giulia (a travel booker with the company) was friendly and communicative at all times – she gave me great advice and helped me every step of the way in booking and preparing the tour. She arranged a comfortable and spacious van to pick my family up in Positano and the drive around Sorento coast to Pompeii was great – Marco our driver was informative and friendly. We were met at Pompeii by our guide, Italo, skipped the line (the crowds in June-July are huge!) and started an amazing tour of the ruins of Pompeii. Italo was knowledgeable and incredibly passionate about Pompeii - it was obvious he knew his stuff and loved the town. This really was one of our holiday highlights so thank you to the team at Loretta’s. PS: it is hot in Pompeii June-July with very little shade: wear loose fitting clothing an take along plenty of water.

Response from the operator: Good morning! Reading your review is such a nice way to start the day! Thank you for the kindness of your feedback. As you have experienced, we really care about our customers' satisfaction, and our staff takes care of every detail to make your tour unique. Will absolutely share your words with Giulia, Italo and Marco - it will make their day! For further assistance, please, do not hesitate to contact Giulia again - she will be happy to help you planning your next adventure! Wish you all the best, The "Loretta's Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Tours" team

    Pompeii and Herculaneum tour

What a wonderful experience from beginning to end. We were picked up at the front door of our hotel in Sorrento by Leeza, our driver. She was great! She told us a lot of information about the towns we were driving through while on our way to Pompeii and even stopped along the road for us to take pictures of the beautiful scenery. Once at Pompeii we met our guide, Rosanna, who was the best! She is an art history major and even took some college classes from one of the archaeologists who helped make discoveries at Herculaneum. We cannot imagine doing this tour any other way! It was beyond helpful to have a guide with so much knowledge and interesting information!

Response from the operator: Hi, Whitney! We are really happy to read how much you have enjoyed your tour, and won't miss to tell Rosanna and Leeza about your beautiful review! Thank you for sharing your experience! Do not hesitate to contact us again for your future holidays - we will be pleased to assist you! Warm Regards, the "Pompeii & Amalfi Coast Tours" team.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Pompeii.

How much does Skip-the-Line Private Ancient Pompeii Full Day Guided Tour w Professional Guide cost?

    +

Prices start at $59 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Pompeii usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Skip-the-Line Private Ancient Pompeii Full Day Guided Tour w Professional Guide take?

Is Skip-the-Line Private Ancient Pompeii Full Day Guided Tour w Professional Guide worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Pompeii, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Skip-the-Line Private Ancient Pompeii Full Day Guided Tour w Professional Guide?

Is Skip-the-Line Private Ancient Pompeii Full Day Guided Tour w Professional Guide suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Skip-the-Line Private Ancient Pompeii Full Day Guided Tour w Professional Guide?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Pompeii can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Pompeii and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Skip-the-Line Private Ancient Pompeii Full Day Guided Tour w Professional Guide start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Pompeii within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Pompeii?

    +

On Outty we rank every Pompeii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Minivan Trip from Rome: Pompeii Tour & Lunch in Sorrento, Skip the Line Guided Tour of Pompeii Led by an Archaeologist, Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Pompeii?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Pompeii?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
