What you get

    About this experience

The destruction and burial of the Roman town settled on the Vesuvius slopes – Pompeii - was caused by the volcanic eruption of the 79AD. The settlement was completely covered by layers of ash and lava, destroyed in all but memory, and only the hard work of the archaeologists has allowed us to bring the ruins back to live. Your guide will lead you into the streets of the ancient town, showing you the gymnasium, the theatres, the old bakeries and the ancestor of what today would be considered a fast food restaurant. You will then see the Isis temple, the house of Menander and the magnificent baths. On your way you will even find the lupanariae - the red-light district - and will end your tour in the Forum – the central square, where politicians used to make their speeches, temples were built, and merchants sold their products. Join this small group tour and feel free to interact with your live guide asking questions and curiosities.

    Great experience

We visited on a very hot day but our guide kept us in the shade as much as possible. The tour was educational - we wouldn't have known what we were looking at without the guide's explanations. But it was never boring - our guide was very entertaining and made things fun and interesting. Highly recommend.

    Fantastic tour

This was an excellent tour. The guide was very engaging, funny and full of information about Pompeii. Meeting at the meeting point was very easy - although, the day before, I received a text saying the tour had been re-arranged from 9am to 10am meaning I had one hour less time in the archaeological park which was annoying as I had chosen this tour specifically because it started early. But these things happen, and I suppose it could have been much, much worse (if it had been re-arranged for the afternoon for example).. I must have considered dozens of different tours before choosing this one and all-in-all I'm happy I went with this. Well worth the money.

    Our 30th. Wedding Anniversary

Lello (an Archaeologist), was informative, funny, personable and even assisted his “FAMILY” if needed. I highly recommend this tour. Lello pointed out things that I would never have known if walking on our own.

    Fantastic tour and guide!

My husband and I visited Pompeii with tour guide Lello (an archaeologist). We have been on a lot of tours all over the world and can honestly say Lello was the best guide we have ever had. He is very knowledgeable, attentive and (to top it off) hilarious! Pompeii itself was amazing. I would definitely recommend going with a guide to ensure you get the most out of the experience. Before the tour all communications with Giulia from the company were efficient and friendly. Lello also drove us from Naples to Positano and the van was new, spacious and comfortable. When we were hungry Lello directed us to a lovely café which offered freshly made sandwiches, coffee and other drinks.

    Fab tour

Lello was friendly and engaging and brought the ruins to life. His obvious knowledge and passion for the site made the tour super enjoyable.

Response from the operator: Hello, Sally! Lello will be really happy to read your feedback. He is a real superstar in the archaeological site, and I am glad you have enjoyed the tour. Thank you for sharing the experience. See you next time you will be in Italy! Giulia

Skip-the-Line Pompeii Archaeological Site with Private Guide: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Pompeii.

How much does Skip-the-Line Pompeii Archaeological Site with Private Guide cost?

    +

Prices start at $39 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Pompeii usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Skip-the-Line Pompeii Archaeological Site with Private Guide take?

    +

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Pompeii is not rushed.

Is Skip-the-Line Pompeii Archaeological Site with Private Guide worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Pompeii, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Skip-the-Line Pompeii Archaeological Site with Private Guide?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Skip-the-Line Pompeii Archaeological Site with Private Guide suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Skip-the-Line Pompeii Archaeological Site with Private Guide?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Pompeii can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Pompeii and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Skip-the-Line Pompeii Archaeological Site with Private Guide start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Pompeii within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Pompeii?

    +

On Outty we rank every Pompeii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Minivan Trip from Rome: Pompeii Tour & Lunch in Sorrento, Skip the Line Guided Tour of Pompeii Led by an Archaeologist, Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Pompeii?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Pompeii?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
