    About this experience

Explore the untouched breathtaking scenery of Lapland on backcountry skis, and leave your own track in the deep snow where no-one has been before you! This evening tour is a good alternative for those who want to catch the Northern Lights and have a sense for adventure. The tour will be running in any weather conditions ; even though there is a lower chance to see auroras, you will still enjoy a great skiing experience into the wilderness! Sticking to our philosophy, all our tours and activities are limited to small groups (8 guests/tour max) in order to get the best and most memorable experience of Lapland. We refuse mass tourism, and you will never end up in big groups -even in peak season!

Not everyone is athletic and prepare for the cold

This was a great tour. We saw the Northern lights just as we were finishing up the ski tour. I expected to sweat a bit more because I had in my two previous activities so I eliminated one layer of clothes. Because my group was not very athletic, we had a pretty slow pace, needed to stop a lot and I was quite cold. Linea (sp) was a good guide, she gave us directions how to put the skis on and what to do if we fell. She also kept her pace so the slowest of the group could keep up or she would stop for them. She provided snacks at the end, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, sausages with flatbread and a really good Finnish mustard. It was my birthday the day of the tour, I had already been out the previous 3 nights looking for the lights and was finally blessed with them at the end of this tour.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for this wonderful review! We are so happy to hear that this tour was enjoyable and you had such a great time with Linnea. We are also happy that you managed to see the Northern Lights during this tour, so you celebrated your birthday in perfect style! Thank you for choosing Wild About Lapland and hopefully see you again in Rovaniemi in the future!

    Super fun and unique

I had an excellent time on this tour - our guide Jo was wonderful and helpful. I loved the small group vibe, it felt safer as I was skiing for the first time. We unfortunately didn’t really see the lights but could see them a bit in photos, it was just cloudy. It was cold but the overalls and boots provided were great and it was a very easy process from arriving at the centre, to getting changed, and getting on location. Ending in a little teepee with a fire was great and I loved getting a little info on Finnish traditions. Would definitely recommend this company.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for taking your time to write this review about your Ski Trekking under the Northern Lights. We appreciate your kind words and positive feedback. Thank you for choosing Wild About Lapland and welcome back anytime in the future! Warm regards, Dominik Wild About Lapland

SUOER RECOMMENDABLE! The most beautiful excursion we've ever done by far

Super recommended excursion!! We had a very good Spanish guide named Guille who knows a lot about Finnish history and explains everything super well. The rite is the most beautiful we have done in the whole trip, on top of that we were very lucky and we could see the Northern Lights!! 10000% RECOMMENDED!!

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking your time to write about your experience with Wild About Lapland. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed Ski Trekking with Guille and Northern Lights as a bonus! Welcome back anytime in the future on our tours! Warm regards, Dominik Wild About Lapland

    Under the lights

It was my first time skiing but the guide put me at ease and guided us through the paths and woods. It was both exhilarating, nerve racking at first but I’d definitely do it again. The comfort of the group definitely helped with the nerves. Sausages & hot chocolate round the camp fire was the perfect warming break and pick me up. The group and tour guide were friendly, relaxing, helpful and very informative about the educational side of the Northern Lights. An all round amazing trip that will be a life long memory and a treasured experience.

Ski Trekking under the Northern Lights: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rovaniemi.

How much does Ski Trekking under the Northern Lights cost?

    +

Prices start at $99 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rovaniemi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Ski Trekking under the Northern Lights take?

    +

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rovaniemi is not rushed.

Is Ski Trekking under the Northern Lights worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 54 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable nightlife in Rovaniemi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Ski Trekking under the Northern Lights?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Ski Trekking under the Northern Lights suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Ski Trekking under the Northern Lights?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rovaniemi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rovaniemi and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Ski Trekking under the Northern Lights start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rovaniemi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rovaniemi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Rovaniemi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights Rovaniemi: Guaranteed Viewing & Unlimited Mileage, Rovaniemi: Korouoma Canyon & Frozen Waterfalls Tour with BBQ, Rovaniemi:%100 Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunt&Free Photos. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rovaniemi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rovaniemi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
