Awesome tour guide and tour!!

This was a wonderful day! Our tour guide David was great! He was friendly and super knowledgeable about all things Portugal. He took us everywhere he thought we would like, we really did live like a local. Before the tour he coordinated and planned everything so he could curate our day exactly to how we would like it. He picked us up on time at our hotel ( and even accommodated OUR last minute request to move the timing of the start of the tour) he had waters and snacks for us in the car. ( drove extremely safe btw) We saw all of sintra and had a fabulous day. Without David we would have been lost ( both literally and figuratively) Recommend him as a tour guide 10/10

Response from the operator: Dear Rebecca, Thank you so much for your great review of our Sintra Half Day Tour. Loved taking you, Chris and Olivia around Sintra and showing you everything like a local. We definitely changed most of the itinerary to cater to what you wanted to see which is something I do all the time. Everyone is different and enjoy different things so I do my best to personalize each tour individually. Hope you return for more tours in the future! Enjoy the Algarve! Best Regards, David Monteiro

David is a very accomplished tour guide. He is very professional and is able to share his expertise and knowledge about Portugal. His English is impeccable and we loved conversing with him on our Trip to Sintra and back along the beautiful coast. Great day and experience.

Response from the operator: Dear Teresa, Thank you very much for your review of our Sintra tour. Your kind words mean a lot. Hopefully whoever wants to have a great time and enjoy this beautiful place to the fullest can read your review and choose our tour. Looking forward to seeing you soon for a Portugal/Spain trip all the way to Valencia. Best Regards, David Monteiro

Great experience! Highly recommended!

Our family had such a great time with David! He is so knowledgeable about Portugal and is very funny too! He fit in with our family dynamic so well! He also gave some great recommendations on where else to go around Lisbon. He really wants people to know about Portugal and gives great recommendations! Thanks David and (inside joke), your momma! 😀

Response from the operator: Dear Amrik, Thank you so much for your review of our Sintra tour. I can only say I had a great time with you and your family. It is because of people like you that I feel that I love my job. Lots of jokes, laughs, knowledge and great fun! Hope to see you again soon! Best Regards, David Monteiro

Nothing Special

Our tour guide was David who was very personable, but when asked what the schedule was didn't seem to have a plan. We stopped for lunch at a place described as the best on the route. It was like stopping at a gas station. The employees were extremely loud, the food was inedible and the bathrooms were dirty and had no toilet seats. Sintra is a charming town with bumper-to-bumper traffic. I asked if we would be able to walk in the cave because two of us have walking issues. He said, "Well, yes," but actually you walk up kind of a ramp and look down into the Boca da Inferno cave. Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of Europe, is just walking up a sidewalk and looking out at the ocean. Guincho beach is just a beach and the water is cold so there were few people on the beach and hardly anyone in the water. The stop at Cascais for shopping was done in 10 minutes because it's mostly cafes and souvenir shops which all have the same uninteresting stuff. Then we drove along the coast. We live in Florida so beaches and coastline are nothing special. We were running out of time so we had to skip the palaces, but David said time didn't matter and insisted that we stop to buy pastries which were delicious but we didn't really care about them at that point. All in all a disappointing tour for $600 for four hours.

Response from the operator: Dear Merle, Thank you for your review of our Sintra tour. Can't say I am not disappointed with your 3/5, especially because you are reviewing my tour and not restaurants or monuments. It is a fact that Sintra can have bumper-to-bumper traffic. Even more on a Saturday which was the day of our tour. But how that is my fault is something I don't understand. As for the restaurant you mentioned, we didn't even stop for lunch as we had a "4 hour tour" that started at 1pm so I think you are confusing my tour with another one with someone else. This is the typical case of wrong expectations. You wanted to walk "inside the cave" at Boca do Inferno which is something impossible to do. When I said you could, I thought you were asking about something else, definitely not that place. I don't know what you were expecting at the westernmost point of mainland europe besides "looking out at the ocean", when the west coast of Portugal is on the water. Maybe you were expecting some islands that don't exist? Yes, Guincho beach is just a beach. I don't know where anyone described it as being something else. It is what it is. Surprising that hardly anyone was in the water as this tour was in mid October which is half way into our Fall. Maybe some knowledge of the weather of the place you're traveling to would help not making this mistake. The stop at Cascais, like the whole tour, didn't have a time limit. You spent as long as you wished there as I didn't rush you for anything. And I remember telling you CLEARLY that this town is very touristy and I usually just drive by and go somewhere else but you insisted on stopping. You say we were running out of time and we skipped the palaces, but you probably didn't read the itinerary of this Half Day Tour I assume. Again, I am sure you are confusing my tour with someone else's as we weren't supposed to visit any palaces inside but still saw all of them from the outside and even stopped for pictures where we could. Also my mistake for extending the tour for 2 more hours and giving you the opportunity to see a part of Lisbon you hadn't seen before, along with trying the famous custard tarts from the Pastéis de Belém (that you said you loved from what I can remember and now said you didn't really care about). Should have just taken you straight to the hotel whenever the 4 hours were over if I knew this was coming. I know nothing is perfect, but I feel you are judging my tour by how much you liked or disliked certain places instead of reviewing my work as a Tour Guide, which is why you can write reviews about my tours here. I don't own a restaurant, don't own monuments and also can't control the flow of traffic. With that said, I hope you still enjoyed your time in Portugal and thank you for spending time writing this review that was in part for someone else for sure. Best Regards, David Monteiro

So worth it!

We had a tremendous time with David on our tour around Lisbon, Sintra, and Cabo da Roca. We were unfortunately only in Portugal for a day and a half but David did a phenomenal job to show us as many sights as possible during the short time and definitely gave us an appetite to go back to visit and explore more of Portugal. If you're visiting, be sure to ask David about his favorite spot to find Pasteis de Nata!!!!

Response from the operator: Dear Adrian, Thank you very much for your review of our Sintra tour. It was a great day and we managed to explore a bit more than just Sintra because I didn't want you to go home without seeing a bit more of my country. Hope you can return to see more of what I told you. Best Regards, David Monteiro

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lisbon.

How much does Sintra, Cabo da Roca and the Coast - PRIVATE Half Day from Lisbon like a local cost?

+

Prices start at $70 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lisbon usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Sintra, Cabo da Roca and the Coast - PRIVATE Half Day from Lisbon like a local take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lisbon is not rushed.

Is Sintra, Cabo da Roca and the Coast - PRIVATE Half Day from Lisbon like a local worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lisbon, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Sintra, Cabo da Roca and the Coast - PRIVATE Half Day from Lisbon like a local?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Sintra, Cabo da Roca and the Coast - PRIVATE Half Day from Lisbon like a local suitable for kids and families?

+

How far in advance should I book Sintra, Cabo da Roca and the Coast - PRIVATE Half Day from Lisbon like a local?

+

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lisbon can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lisbon and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Sintra, Cabo da Roca and the Coast - PRIVATE Half Day from Lisbon like a local start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lisbon within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Lisbon?

+

On Outty we rank every Lisbon experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Lisbon City Center Tour - The Unmissable Lisbon, Sintra Private Trip from Lisbon Customizable Dreamlike Experience, True 4Hour Private Tuk Tuk Tour: Discover Lisbon with a Local!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Lisbon?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Lisbon?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
