Fifi Jewelry Amber Museum is one of the most visited places in Puerto Plata. Inside, it hosts one of the biggest resin exhibitions in the Dominican Republic. The country has the most important amber deposits in the world; moreover, blue, green or warm honey colours are unique from this area due to its volcanic activity. Here, you can discover the history of this vegetal-origin precious stone. One of the most important stones of this museum is a 40cm lizard conserved inside a piece of amber. This resin can hold prehistoric fossils of plants and little animals on its inside due to its sticky nature, that turns this stone in subject of study. It is said that Steven Spielberg was inspired by this museum when he was working on his famous film Jurassic Park.

Private tour of the city!
Had a really good time on this tour. Alex was amazing. He was very personable and took us to some very nice spots. The ride was comfortable and air-conditioned. Not sure how often this happens, but it was also a private tour (just me and my partner). Either no one else booked our time slot or they just have a lot of drivers for the tours? Alex also took pictures for us whenever we wanted him to. He gave us tips about which souvenir shops to purchase things from where the items aren't overpriced. I would recommend this tour.
Response from the operator: We really appreciate your kind words—thank you! It means a lot to our team. We’re glad you enjoyed the experience, and we hope to see you again on your next visit.

There is a lot of walking on this tour. We showed up early and our tour guide, Elvis, took us around early as well. The cathedral was closed the day we went so we could only take pictures of the outside. Saw a lot in the time alloted.

Why this scores 59
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Shore Excursion: Puerto Plata City Tour Top Sights: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Plata.
How much does Shore Excursion: Puerto Plata City Tour Top Sights cost?
+
Prices start at $65 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Plata usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Shore Excursion: Puerto Plata City Tour Top Sights take?
+
Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Plata is not rushed.
Is Shore Excursion: Puerto Plata City Tour Top Sights worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.1/5 across 17 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Plata, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Shore Excursion: Puerto Plata City Tour Top Sights?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Shore Excursion: Puerto Plata City Tour Top Sights suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Shore Excursion: Puerto Plata City Tour Top Sights?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Plata can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Plata and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Shore Excursion: Puerto Plata City Tour Top Sights start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Plata within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puerto Plata?
+
On Outty we rank every Puerto Plata experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Monkeyland and Zipline Adventure from Puerto Plata, Monkeyland Puerto Plata, Puerto Plata Highlights City Tours from amber cove and Taino bay. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puerto Plata?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puerto Plata?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
