Come along on a unique tour that explores the often-overlooked Afro-Argentine history and culture, led by members of the local community. You'll discover the African roots woven into the fabric of Buenos Aires' buildings, stories, and even tango. Our tour of the historic neighborhood of San Telmo, uncovering the rich legacy of Afro-Argentines from pre-colonial times to the modern-day activism reshaping the country's relationship to race. On this walking tour, we'll explore the old slave trading quarters and housing, as well as San Telmo Church, Dorrego Square, minimal house, and tenements. Along the way, you'll learn about the history of the Afro-Argentines, as well as the process of invisibilization of Black heritage and the activism that fights for an anti-racist Argentina. We use the profits from our Black Heritage department to promote affordable tours for locals, sponsor free tours for kids and highlight the contributions of our Black community. Join us!

We will start at the Maria Remedios del Valle Monument, where we will introduce this historical figuere of the Independence Wars and also the introduction to our tour.

We will make a stop in a traditional place in the heart of the colonial neighborhood of San Telmo. Here we'll have a drink and talk about Africa before colonization, as well as the daily lives of the people who worked in the house.

Galeria del Viejo Hotel
Learn about the process of European immigration that symbolically erased the African heritage from our country. Here you'll discover the African roots of many popular cultural assets of Argentina, like tango, asado or even our Lunfardo slang.

Parroquia de San Pedro Gonzalez Telmo
One of the oldest in the city. Work began in 1735 and under the expulsion of the jesuits, the Bethlemite religious order continued the work. Also has a museum with pieces dating back over 200 years.

Our tour guide, Nicolas, was very informative and personable. The history and stories of Africans and descendents in Buenos Aires that are not ordinarily shared in academic or cultural settings were revealed and celebrated. It's an easy walk with time to stop and reflect. If you are going on a 'regular' tour, be sure to supplement it with the Afro-Argentine tour.

an entertaining tour of misinformation and ignorance
I am a history teacher and hold a degree in History from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). As part of my doctoral thesis, I created this tour to assess how modern mass media discourse—shaped by social media—alters historical narratives, particularly regarding countries whose ways of life and cultural experiences are little known or understood. this tour was supposedly meant to cover significant sites in African history as it relates to Argentina; unfortunately, however, I encountered a great deal of misinformation and completely distorted facts. The people involved hadn't done their research and were merely repeating a narrative that bore little relation to the actual history of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata or Argentina—it was essentially a "copy-and-paste" job of modern slogans shoehorned into a history where they simply didn't fit. The tour guide was pleasant but couldn't answer any substantive questions without resorting to falsehoods; when I asked about historical details I knew perfectly well, she wasn't even aware of them. A regrettable experience.

Unfortunately, Trip Advisor will not eliminate this fraudulent review so let me address it. I wonder why you would come to bash the only Black History tour in the city. You certainly have not "created this tour" which is our own IP and was rigorously researched for with assistance from the National Historical Museum and a six month investigation before launch that has turned into a 6 year investigation drawing from dozens of books and hundreds of documents and testimonies. We appreciate a good fact-check, but as you accuse us of promoting misinformation, you can't even pinpoint a single fact that is wrong according to you. This is a regrettable (and quite frankly, probably racist) attempt to bash the methodology of the first Black History tour in the country, which has collected +200 5 star reviews across multiple platforms. All of this coming from a person who never participated in the experience and apparently never had the time to put a single review on this platform before deciding to target the only Black Tourism project in the country today.

It was fantastic! We learned so much about the community and the culture. What I loved the most was that Karl always tied each story back to the begin of where the lesson started. There was a constant throughline! We were captivated throughout the whole tour.
