Shanghai tour with Alice our guide!

We had a great time with Alice. She was informative about everything we saw. We loved the historical details, visiting Yu Garden, and other places like the Bund. The opportunity to create a handmade craft was so much fun.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for liking our tour! We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed the tour. Hope you had a great time in China!

Great experience in Shanghai for a private family tour

I would like to leave a review, because sometimes it is hard to understand what to expect and so many options available. It was our first time in Shanghai and more than 20 years since I went China before. The preps were overwhelming and we also had a very short time in such a big city as Shanghai and wanted to see everything, but also wanted to keep it easy, as we were just arriving, jetlag etc. Booking with Eastbound was the best decision. In one day we covered the main point of interest and beyond. It was just our family, so convenient. Tied exactly to our expectations, even though those could be somewhat conflicting. Our guide, Yi, got it just right - he gave me the time to take pictures, just as I love, and was able to appeal to my husband and our 10 years old son, who have completely different desires than me. My son says the best part of our two weeks in China was the day with Yi. We also rented a personal driver to follow us during the day and that was very convenient as well, though I really do not like when someone else is driving me, but not this time: the car was very spacious and comfortable(new Chinese EV) and the driver Jackie was awesome. Very calm driver and spoke great English. Another reason why it was so beneficial for us to book this trip is that Yi enabled us for future travel in China on our own. He ensured we were able to use the needed apps and could pay. And most important - introduced us to local foods and brands like Chagee and Lukin coffee. I fell in love with Chagee. And I can tell you if not Yi, I would not be even considering them or noticing them on my own. All in all, it was a great experience and provided what it advertised and beyond.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing such a thoughtful and detailed review of your private family tour in Shanghai. We’re absolutely delighted that your first visit in over 20 years turned out to be such a memorable experience, even with jet lag and a busy schedule. At Eastbound and Beyond, our goal is to create journeys that go beyond sightseeing—crafting seamless, personal experiences that connect you with real local life, history, and culture. We’re so thrilled Yi and Jacky made your day so special, and that your son even called it his favorite part of the whole two-week trip! We’re also delighted we could help you feel confident navigating local apps, discovering beloved local brands and truly immerse into life in China. Thank you for trusting us with your adventure. We can’t wait to welcome you back and take you Eastbound and Beyond on your next journey in China!

Lovely day in Shanghai with local guide Rachel

We had a lovely tailor made full day tour with Rachel! She took good care of our family of five, including my two elderly parents, as we walked through the old alleyways of Shanghai. The tour was easygoing enough for all our needs, and included plenty of food and drink and shopping breaks! Great for family experiences!

Response from the operator: Thank you Xiaorong! We’re so happy to hear you enjoyed a lovely, relaxed tailor-made tour with Rachel, especially with your family of five including your elderly parents. Making sure every guest travels comfortably and happily is what we care about most at Eastbound and Beyond. Welcome back to China again and we look forward to hosting you!

Shanghai Private Day Tour Classic Icons Meet Hidden Gems: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Shanghai.

How much does Shanghai Private Day Tour Classic Icons Meet Hidden Gems cost?

    +

Prices start at $159 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Shanghai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Shanghai Private Day Tour Classic Icons Meet Hidden Gems take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Shanghai is not rushed.

Is Shanghai Private Day Tour Classic Icons Meet Hidden Gems worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Shanghai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Shanghai Private Day Tour Classic Icons Meet Hidden Gems?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Shanghai Private Day Tour Classic Icons Meet Hidden Gems suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Shanghai Private Day Tour Classic Icons Meet Hidden Gems?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Shanghai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Shanghai and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Shanghai Private Day Tour Classic Icons Meet Hidden Gems start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Shanghai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Shanghai?

    +

On Outty we rank every Shanghai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Shanghai Full Day City Tour with Old and New Highlights, Full-Day Private Guided Tour of Shanghai, Shanghai City Guided Walking Tour | China's 1st and Best Rated. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Shanghai?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Shanghai?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

What is included in Shanghai Private Day Tour Classic Icons Meet Hidden Gems?

    +

Included: English-speaking tour guide; A special gift; Private transportation; Bottled water; and Admission fees. Not included: Lunch. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.
