What you'll see and do

1. The Bund (Wai Tan)

   Your tour guide will meet you at exit of the airport with the welcoming board on which your name will be written at 08:30 a.m.. Then, we will move to the Bund by private transportation. The Bund is a famous waterfront on the west bank of Huangpu River and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai. Here, the charm of Shanghai as a bustling metropolis combining the century-old history and flourishing future is fully presented, making the Bund Shanghai a must-see attraction. We will see the 26 various buildings of different architectural styles at the Bund. Such as Peace Hotel, Shanghai Customs House and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. We also can appreciate high rises across the Huangpu River. Then, we will transfer to Yuyuan Old Street and experience the original Shanghai atmosphere,visit classical garden and traditional Chinese medicine stores.

2. Yuyuan Old Street

   Shanghai Old Street, historically called Miaoqian Dajie, is an old business street that has a combination of tourist attractions, shops, entertainment and cultural exhibits. It owes its special social attractions and rich commercial background to the fact that the earliest bank, gold shop, jeweler's store, wine shop and tea house of the city were all to be found here. Visiting the old alleys of Shanghai is a great way to discover the traditional culture of this city and experience the real life of the Shanghainese.

3. Yu Garden

   Later, you will be shown around Yu Garden which was first built in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty by Pan Yunduan as a comfort for his father, the minister Pan En, in his old age. Pan Yunduan began the project after failing one of the imperial exams, but his appointment as governor of Sichuan postponed construction for nearly twenty years until 1577.  Yu Garden is small in size, but it contains all elements that a classical Chinese garden should have. The pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds and cloisters all have unique characteristics. The garden has six areas, each with its own style. At noon, we will Have lunch nearby. After lunch, we will stroll around Former French Concession, Xintiandi and Tianzifang to experience a distinct contrast of the western-style architectures built in early 20th century and modern ones built since 1990s

4. Former French Concession

   We will admire the western-style architectures around Former French Concession area. Known for its tree-lined boulevards, the former French Concession is a stylish neighborhood boasting a charming mix of Chinese and European architecture. Walk along quiet alleyways, absorb the botanical beauty of a French-style park and admire the intricate facades of villas and apartments built in the early 20th century and discover the famous figures that have resided within.

5. Xintiandi

   We can approach to appreciate the SHIKUMEN style old houses and the relaxing atmosphere of Xintiandi Xintiandi is a tourist attraction that preserves the historical and cultural features of Shanghai and integrates Chinese and western culture. Xintiandi is divided into northern and southern parts. The south is dominated by modern architecture. The north is dominated by Shikumen old buildings. Composed of Shikumen and modern architectural style, now it has become a hot and fashionable pedestrian street in the center of the city. Actually, it stands for the popular and leisurely life style of this city's new generation. The outdoor cafés, bars and romantic restaurants can be seen everywhere. It was once the site of the first congress of the Communist Party, but is now lined with shopping and entertainment places.

6. Shikumen Museum, Shanghai

   It is an old shikumen house built in the 1920s that has been preserved and renovated. The museum was built according to the model of one household in the 1920s. There are seven main exhibition rooms, namely, the guest room, the study room, the old people's room, the master room, the daughter room, the pavilion room and the oven room. The story of a shikumen family runs through the whole visit. It not only shows the unique shikumen architectural culture of Shanghai, but also reproduces the living space and lifestyle of Shanghai people in those days. Then, we will transfer to People’s Square, visit Shanghai Museum and admire the facade of various significant edifices around People's Square.

7. Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan)

   We will move to People’s Square and visit Shanghai Museum to learn about profound history and culture of Shanghai. Located in the center of Shanghai in People's Square, Shanghai Museum is a large museum of ancient Chinese art. Its style and presentation surround visitors with artifacts demonstrating ancient wisdom and philosophy. The exterior design of the round dome and the square base symbolizes the ancient idea of a round heaven and a square land. The museum is divided into eleven galleries and three exhibition halls. The eleven galleries cover most of the major categories of Chinese art: Ancient Bronze, Ancient Ceramics, Paintings, Calligraphy, Ancient Sculpture, Ancient Jade, Coins, Ming and Qing Furniture, Seals, and Minority Nationalities. We can see many scenic spots around people's square, such as the new Municipal Government Mansion, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theater, Shanghai History Museum and Mu'en Church. Then, we will visit Shanghai Museum to learn about profound history and culture. Then, we will walk around Nanjing Road, explore surrounding communities and the thinnest building.

8. Nanjing Lu (Nanjing Road)

   Nanjing Road is considered to be the 'No. 1 commercial street in China', which has been a landmark for this city for a long time. Along its 5.5 kilometers, you will find over 600 shops that on average are visited by some 1.7 million people each day. We will take the Dangdang sightseeing tram. It's an unforgettable experience to take a ride on the old-style Dangdang tram. On the slow bus, you can see various stores out of the window, old or new, leaving your view one by one. You can also visit the surrounding neighborhoods and the thinnest building. You can also visit the thinnest building in Ningbo Road is known as Paper Building(纸片楼). The building was once reported by British Daily Mail, stated as perhaps the world's flattest and thinnest building. Standing diagonally in the front of the the building, it just looks like a piece of paper. The old house had four floors, not all that thin; it takes the shape of triangular polygon. This novel and strange building still has a large number of residents. Afterwards, enjoy comfortable transfer back to airport to catch your flight or your hotel. Wrap your memories and say good-bye.
