This is no ordinary performance, it's a 70-minute inescapable disco. Inspired by Studio 54, the legendary New York nightclub famed for its wild parties and radical inclusivity. Velvet Inferno is a non-stop disco spectacular with boiling hot vocals and jaw-dropping circus acts. Directed by Craig Ilott (Gatsby at the Green Light, L’Hotel, Velvet Rewired), expect timeless dancefloor anthems, powerhouse performances and gravity-defying acts. It tells the story of a bright-eyed but lost young woman walking in to a night club, then club owner Country Mike (Brendan Maclean) sees the future. With the help of The Diva (Marcia Hines), a groovy coming-of-age journey ignites. Are you ready to join the party?

What a Special Privilege!
Full disclosure: I am not an opera fan. Despite that, it was a dream to see a live performance at the storied SOH. The concert we saw was like an intro to opera with, almost all, readily recognizable pieces of music. It was a fairly short concert, there were an unexpected smattering of surprisingly well-behaved children, and even our companions, who’ve had zero previous opera exposure, enjoyed it immensely. The pianist was skilled and the 4 performers were chatty and made the whole thing even more accessible. All of which added up to a truly memorable, once-in-a-lifetime, Sydney Opera House concert.

Carmen – Great voices, but a very modern staging
It was my first time at an opera, and I chose Carmen in Sydney for its music and story. From the very first moment, I was impressed by the voices, the acting, and the passion of the performers; the orchestra was impeccable, and the energy on stage drew me in completely. However, the costumes threw me off a bit. I couldn’t tell in which era the story was set, and personally, I believe part of the beauty of opera lies in seeing the elegance of its original period—those refined dresses, the graceful women, the charm of a time we no longer see today. I understand the production aimed for a modern interpretation, but for me, I would have loved to enjoy it with the classic look and costumes I had imagined. Even so, I will cherish this night as a special memory, grateful for the talent and dedication of everyone who brought this Carmen to life.

We do stage many Operas in historical dress too, at the moment that is one of our operas in repertory 'The Marriage of Figaro.' Burn the Floor - show was great!
Bought a last minute discount ticket courtesy of the Sydney Opera House email updates offering $50 tickets for a Premium Seat midweek for the show ‘Burn the Floor’. Fab seat. Fab show. Audience energised by the fantastic dancing & music. Dance Costumes were a highlight too. Audience gave the dance cast & two singers and drummer a well deserved standing ovation at the end. Recommend.

Love this place!
We saw a show at the opera house and would highly recommend this. The opera house is such an amazing sight, even when you do the tour, walk around, and see the views from the opera house and from the audience seats. I would recommend seeing a show here if you can!
