    About this experience

We will explore both Madrid’s famous landmarks and its hidden gems, bringing the city’s extraordinary past to life along the way. As both a driving force and a mirror of Spanish history, culture and art, Madrid has also played a significant role in the history of Europe. You will discover how a ninth-century Muslim fortress became the capital of a global empire. From its Islamic origins to the austere world of the Habsburgs and the elegance of the Bourbons, Madrid is a fascinating mixture of cultures and contradictions. Every corner has a story to tell. This is the city from which a large part of the world was once governed; a city that produced some of history’s greatest artists and writers, but also endured crime, popular uprisings, Napoleonic occupation and civil war. My aim is not only to show you some of Madrid’s most beautiful and meaningful places, but also to help you understand the events, ambitions and unexpected twists of history that shaped its unique character.

    Walking tour of old Madrid

Juan was very informative and friendly. Viator messed up the time for the tour and he graciously stuck to the confirmation time we had vs what Viator had given him. The tour is not for those with mobility issues but we covered 1300 yrs in the old part of the city, well with the effort.

Informative, fun, small group city tour around Madrid!

Highly informative going deep into the history of Madrid and stories behind the various historical artifacts around the city. Juan was friendly, humorous, and personable. Truly a small group tour too. Highly recommend!

Well worth the walk to get a feel of the city and it's history

Small group was right - great, .... just my partner and I treated to a very informative and wide reaching narrative as we wandered

    Juan was an excellent...

Juan was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgeable and humorous. I liked at the end where he used a "map" in stone to reiterate what we'd just seen and allowed us to see an overview of the area. Great tour.

    Juan and his 'cha-ching' tour

This was a thoroughly enjoyable small group walking tour experience. Juan has an idiosyncratic way of presenting the informatiom, which may not appeal to everyone. He has a characteristic of emphasizing key points with a "cha-ching" exclamation. He also has connections to the Spanish movie industry and so can provide in-depth information about that topic. I wanted to do another of his tours but was not in Madrid to be able to do so.

Secrets of Madrid Small Group Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Madrid.

How much does Secrets of Madrid Small Group Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $1 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Madrid usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Secrets of Madrid Small Group Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Madrid is not rushed.

Is Secrets of Madrid Small Group Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 26 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Madrid, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Secrets of Madrid Small Group Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Secrets of Madrid Small Group Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Secrets of Madrid Small Group Tour?

    +

Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Madrid can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Madrid and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Secrets of Madrid Small Group Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Madrid within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Madrid?

    +

On Outty we rank every Madrid experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Madrid Essential: Historic Center, Plaza Mayor & Royal Palace, Madrid Walking Tour from Puerta del Sol to Retiro Park, Madrid Oscuro: Torture, Ghosts, Crimes and Legends. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Madrid?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Madrid?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
