Nice but not great value for money
We bought tickets upon arriving, early morning. It is a nice small piece paradise in the city center. It takes 15 min tops to visit it and it can get very crowded. There is a path you follow and see a lot of butterflies in an Amazonian like forrest. Nice but do not know if worth the money.

The actual place where...
The actual place where the butterflies can be viewed is much smaller than the pictures show. It can be overcrowded at times, making it difficult to move around.

Small enough to finish in five minutes, worth staying for twenty
You walk in and Vienna disappears almost immediately. The air turns warm and humid, the windows fog slightly, everything around you goes aggressively green, and suddenly butterflies are drifting past your head like this tiny greenhouse decided normal personal space no longer applies. That's easily the best part of the Schmetterlinghaus. There are genuinely a lot of butterflies here, not the kind of place where you spend five minutes desperately hunting for one. The setting itself is beautiful too. Dense tropical plants, flowers, little paths, rocks and water, all of it making the place feel much more alive than a simple exhibition room. Slow down and actually stand somewhere for a while, and it turns out to be surprisingly relaxing. Butterflies settle on leaves, vanish into the vegetation, occasionally fly close enough that you instinctively duck your head out of the way. There's one fairly major catch though: it's tiny. Approach it like a normal tourist attraction and just walk through, and you could genuinely be done in around five minutes. Even with photos and a proper look around, this isn't somewhere most people spend a lot of time. At roughly €10 admission, that starts to make the value feel questionable. The trick is not treating it like something you need to complete. Sit with it a bit. Look for different butterflies. Take your time. Enjoy the strange little tropical bubble sitting in the middle of Vienna. Do that, and the whole experience makes a lot more sense. Also worth knowing: it gets genuinely warm inside. Great for the butterflies, considerably less great for sweaty tourists in August. A beautiful little place with plenty of butterflies and a genuinely pleasant atmosphere, but "little" is doing some heavy lifting here.

Cool sanctuary
We first visited here over 25 years ago. Hasn't changed since then and really doesn't need to. The butterflies have a nice sanctuary an they're not afraid to fly close a stay on a flower/leaf for you to get a close up view you might not normally have.

Wonderful experience
This was amazing, well set out, loads of butterflies to see, very atmospheric. Only €10 per person.

Why this scores 53
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Schmetterlinghaus - Imperial Butterfly House Vienna Admission Ticket: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Vienna.
How much does Schmetterlinghaus - Imperial Butterfly House Vienna Admission Ticket cost?
+
Prices start at $5 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Vienna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Schmetterlinghaus - Imperial Butterfly House Vienna Admission Ticket take?
+
Plan for about 0.3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Vienna is not rushed.
Is Schmetterlinghaus - Imperial Butterfly House Vienna Admission Ticket worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 53 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.6/5 across 167 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Vienna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Schmetterlinghaus - Imperial Butterfly House Vienna Admission Ticket?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Schmetterlinghaus - Imperial Butterfly House Vienna Admission Ticket suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 0.3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Schmetterlinghaus - Imperial Butterfly House Vienna Admission Ticket?
+
Around 58 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Vienna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Vienna and add a light layer if any part of the 0.3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Schmetterlinghaus - Imperial Butterfly House Vienna Admission Ticket start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Vienna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Vienna?
+
On Outty we rank every Vienna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Authentic Vienna Food Tour inc. lunch, street food, 3 drinks, Vienna Food Tour: Coffeehouses, Markets, Lunch & Street Food, Budapest Small-Group Day Trip from Vienna. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Vienna?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Vienna?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
