Hmmm... the Sapphire needs a bit of polish
The Sapphire is an 'old but comfortable gal in the bay' that just needs a little bit of loving overhaul-- including the crew. The accommodation was comfortable enough but overall seemed a tad lack luster. Repairs looked shabby, service seemed strained, smiles a bit fake, playful joking a bit corny. The tender boat that transferred us from the main dock to the ship was very 'rustic' to be kind but frankly just grungy & old with very uncomfortable bench style seating that failed to give any sense of luxury which was promised. The food was generally tasty and plentiful. Presentations & demonstrations were basically over rehearsed with the 'same old-same old' attempts at humor. Drinks were o.k. but pricey for just "ok". We did enjoy the quiet time to relax on our very teeny tiny balcony-- nothing a nice glass of wine couldn't cure. Surprised that there was no attempt to conceal some of the ugly parts of the under deck. Door was wide open exposing horrible rust and general grime. Wish we had been better prepared by staff regarding the procedure to go on the row boats into the tunnels. First, we were strategically seated in the boat to avoid capsizing--good. Then we were tossed some life jackets to jostle with, trying not to overturn the vessel. Then some raincoats were tossed to put on over top of the life jackets. More struggles/awkward giggles. Then some conical hats to top us off. All this without a spoken word. The brief excursion into the tunnels was indeed beautifully peaceful but we were so awkwardly bundled up, it was difficult to turn to look around. To balance the weight one guest sat at the helm, elevated just enough to obscure everyone's view. And again, no spoken comments whatsoever. In spite of this seemingly grim glimpse into our experience, ironically it was still a wonderful experience. Our only regret was not doing better research into the quality of the ship & the service.

POOR
POOR - we booked a different cruise then the company informed us the night before that they had overbook but would up grade us - JOKE! Collection was ok. The cruise boat has poor facilities and standards - see pictures. Thankfully the food was good and the tours ok or we may have පරිදි to leave.

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL
Would give 0 stars if possible! Transportation to the port was in a dirty and uncomfortable bus and included unsolicited stops to pearl manufacturers trying to sell us stuff which is unacceptable for a three hour journey. The mother ship was isolated in the bay itself over 40 minutes away, we traveled there on a small, old and uncomfortable boat with mouldy life jackets. The mother ship was outdated and dirty including dirty curtains, mouldy blinds in the bathroom and soggy artificial grass on the balcony. WiFi was non existent. We didn't get a choice with food other than choosing not to eat meat or fish, there is no menu explaining the food, you just get served it. Not even water was included with any meals. Extra drinks are ridiculously overpriced not worth the money, we bought two iced coffees and they were made from old coffee from a plastic bottle. The staff seemed more friendly to people buying alcohol. The guide made snide comments when we just wanted to spend time in our room. The bay is cluttered with rubbish, over tourism at its finest. And finally the guide then tried to force a 5* review by sitting next to me on the rust bucket of a boat back to land and said he needed to look at my booking on GetYourGuide and then tried to tap the 5 star rating on my phone, I had to pull it away. DO NOT BOOK THIS CRUISE!!

Family Holiday
The staff on the Sapphire cruise were all so caring and amazing. They all worked so hard and really engaged with the guests to ensure they had a great time and some laughs along the way. Luc who was the main tour leader looked after every single person and made us all laugh. The boat itself was fantastic. Beautiful and clean with lots of perfect activities all planned so well. Definitely would recommend the Sapphire cruise and Ha Long Bay.

Unforgettable Halong Bay
Amazing staff, perfect amount (a lot) of food and very well presented (vegetarian very yummy), the views are breathtaking, we loved kayaking, happy hour and the little cooking lesson where we made spring rolls. The room was perfect for us, quality exceeded our expectations as we had hot tub and balcony and it was cheaper than lots of other boats options. You can soak in the hot tub while having a drink watching the beautiful Halong Bay. Karaoke, swimming, thai chi and the bamboo boat have made the 2 days 1 night cruise even better, the staff helped us with everything we needed and they were smiling and very welcoming for the moment we jumped on board till the end. We met fantastic guests from Australia, Vietnam, and Europe and we absolutely loved the staff. Thank you to all the team HOANG the manager, MAX our super tour guide, James Bond the bar manager, the waiters and truly everyone who works on board. Highly recommended
