Historic and Informative Tour
Our guide, Leopoldo, was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and able to customize this informative and entertaining tour for the members of our group which was small, so we had a thorough and local perspective of San Juan and Puerto Rico history while exploring both well-known and hidden parts of Old San Juan. Stops for a cocktail and some serendipitous live street music capped off an excellent evening of close-up sight seeing and stories. The spookiness factor was a bit lacking and could use some development for future tours (hence only 4 of 5 stars), but the cultural information more than made up for this for our group. We had such a good time we went out afterwards with our new friends from our group to enjoy the Old San Juan nightlife together!

Not only did he tell us the history of old San Juan, he gave us great recommendations for restaurants and bars. Just make sure you wear sneakers on this tour.

HORRIFYING… in a bad way
Our guide was Leopoldo Rosso (according to the confirmation email). We were very excited about this tour. Looked forward to a different and fun experience filled with ghost stories. Perhaps we shouldn’t had been so optimistic and aimed so high. Our guide first showed an uneasiness once he learned we were Puertorrican. I was willing to ignore the feeling and even ignore the fact that his English was subpar considering this is a tour that’s geared towards mostly English speaking people (we asked if the tour was in Spanish as I have friends that were interested but their English is limited and we were told that it could only be done in Spanish if it was a private tour). So, we plowed on. He spoke mostly of building history, glossed over some Puertorrican history, would say how “all these deaths happened here so you can imagine how much ghost activity would be here” and move on, barely any paranormal activity was mentioned. Let’s be clear, death in a place doesn’t mean that paranormal activities exist there. Also, mentioning restaurants without any connection to paranormal activity is shameless promotion and we felt strange and ashamed for him for doing that. Also, he didn’t even know what a poltergeist was. During the first hour of the tour only 2 ghosts were mentioned and not in deep detail which was the whole point of the tour. At one point he was talking about the architecture of a building (that had no paranormal activity mind you) and asked about what was unique about it. One of my friends correctly answered that the building’s architect plagiarized the design and even mentioned the name of the guy. He then walks forward, turns around and says the name of the guy to her which we both looked at each other and said “that’s what you said”, she said, “did he just mansplain me?”, I said “yup”. But I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe he didn’t hear her, so I ignored it, but one of my friends was already feeling awkward. Now, here’s where it turned to “we still had hope it would get better” to “screw it”. I can only talk about the first hour of the tour ONLY as he ditched us during a bathroom break. He told us that once we arrived at El Convento we could go to the bathroom. Here he finally mentioned the famous nun seen in the hallways of the hotel, it’s an old story amongst Puertorricans, but that was it, no detail. When we go in, masks were required and my dad’s mask broke. So, I go to the front desk to ask the concierge for a new one. Our guide kept going and didn’t wait for us and kept talking to the group he did have close. No biggie. I thought it was ok. Then once we get there, he was done. I thought it odd that it was so short a stay. So my group goes to the bathroom as he had promised. Turns out he started walking out with the group, thought he would stay outside waiting for us, but instead he just kept walking. Told my friend to follow him and eventually followed myself and whistled to him to get his attention as he seemed determined to leave us behind. This is a tour. The guide must make sure all participants are present. When I told him my party had gone to the bathroom to please wait, something I said nicely, he responded with attitude. That why wasn’t he told. I was taken aback and told him my dad’s mask had broken and I had to look for a new one, that I didn’t hear that I was supposed to tell him. Again, he claimed that why wasn’t he told and then accused us of wanting to go our separate ways. At this point I was furious but kept my calm, told him to calm down and breathe deeply that my party was coming and I needed to make sure that they knew where we were (my dad sometimes wanders off without telling me so I needed to get back to him quickly). When I went to the entrance of El Convento, my friend tells me that the guide kept going and left us. I was in shock. He didn’t even bother to wait. Just as well as I had to call my dad cause he had wandered off. Once he met with us, we were done and everyone just wanted to leave. I did receive a phone call from an unknown caller but never answered nor did they leave a voicemail so there’s no way of telling if it was him checking up on us. All in all, it was a tourist trap of a tour, shameless promotions and little to no knowledge on paranormal activity in the city. I’ve heard more first account stories from people that live there, employees of the restaurants and the forts (I have connections). I would ask for my money back but from the way you respond to some of the bad reviews given it looks like you don’t aim to make it better and just offer the script which is a pathetic way to make it up to your clients. We don’t want the story from a script. We paid for the person to tell us the stories. Since you won’t give us anything back for that wasted night the way you can make it up to us is by making your business better. Train your employees better people skills and look for people that love this kind of stuff so they live it when they tell the stories. Anything else is unacceptable.

I saw you cut and pasted this review from Facebook since you didn't book through TripAdvisor. I'm sorry you didn't hit it off with Leo and that made the tour not fun for your group. Leo called your group before the tour when you showed up late and he called when you were taking a break at El Convento (and it was the same number that he had previously called from to check in to see if your group would be on time.) After you didn't respond to his call, he immediately called me personally to make sure I paid attention to any calls that came into our 1-833 number that's listed on the website so that we could make sure you guys could get back on the tour. He also mentioned that he tried to accommodate your dad when he needed a drink, so he made sure that he had time to get a Coke on the route. Your satisfaction was important to us and him personally. I've gotten a lot of great feedback on the tour and I'm sorry it didn't meet your expectations. I did a lot of research around Old San Juan and the reason we offer the scripts and the full stories is because sometimes groups are fooling around, not paying attention, etc... so they usually miss some stories because they're partying on vacation. Actually, if you have some Old San Juan stories, I'd be glad to hear them. I'd be glad to talk to your connections to get more stories and make the whole thing better. You obviously care about this and you guys didn't have fun. Leo often gets high marks from people who email in after the tour. You didn't complete the route, the wires got crossed, you didn't enjoy yourselves, and something just didn't work out for you. We're happy to offer a refund. Disappointing
Not a single ghost story was told. Instead the tour consisted of the guide telling us someone had died in a particular building, along with some random historical facts (i.e. this building used to be a Canadian bank, this building was designed by a Czech architect). When we asked questions to get him to share a ghost story, he gave no details at all. At one point, he told us to check YouTube. He did share a fair amount of historical information about the city, but this was supposed to be a ghost tour, not a history tour. Very disappointing and we would not recommend this if you are looking for an actual ghost tour.
