Skip the crowded tour boats. Liberty carries just six guests and that changes everything. Sail San Diego Bay aboard a classic 41-ft Friendship sloop with Captain Phil, a USCG-licensed captain with 55 years of sailing experience. Whether you choose an afternoon sail or stay for sunset, the experience is calm, unhurried, and genuinely personal — less like a tour, more like being invited onto a private yacht. Take in the San Diego skyline, Coronado Bridge, and USS Midway from the water — no narration script, no rushing, just the bay at its best. Sunset sail — watch the sky change over the water as the city lights come on. Afternoon sail — open skies, warm sun, and the city in full view. Ideal for couples and travelers who want an authentic, uncrowded San Diego sailing experience. All sails are 2.5 hours. Included: craft beer, California white wine, soft drinks, and packaged snacks. Paid marina parking available. Gratuity for the captain is appreciated and not included.

Sunset Cruise with Captain Phil
We had a most enjoyable sailing adventure with Captain Phil. His sailboat is a true gem and his many years of sailing and stories of his on-the-water adventures were most entertaining. He sailed us past every unique feature in the harbor with a great depth of knowledge. We'd take this sunset cruise again in a heartbeat.
Response from the operator: Thank you for the wonderful review! It was a pleasure having you aboard Liberty for a sunset sail on San Diego Bay. I’m glad you enjoyed the boat, the stories, and exploring the unique sights around the harbor. Liberty is a special classic sailboat, and sharing both her character and my love of sailing with guests is something I truly enjoy. Thank you for choosing Sail Liberty and for recommending the sunset cruise. I’d be happy to welcome you back aboard for another memorable San Diego sailing experience anytime. Captain Phil

Relaxing Sailing Experience
Beautiful sail boat and friendly captain. Snacks and beverages provided. Fantastic trip, highly recommend
Response from the operator: Sometimes a sail just comes together perfectly, and it sounds like yours was one of those. Liberty is a 41-foot Friendship Sloop and she earns every compliment she gets.

Perfect Sunset Cruise
Such a wonderful trip! Phil has crafted a fantastic expedience on his beautifully kept classic boat with great hospitality, snacks, and tremendous views of San Diego Bay. With only six guests, this classic sloop provides the perfect cozy and comfortable cruise that seems inspired by her historical pedigree. Highly recommend!
Response from the operator: Thank you for such a thoughtful review! I'm delighted that you enjoyed the experience aboard our classic sloop. Preserving her history and character while providing a comfortable and memorable sail is truly a labor of love, so it's especially rewarding to hear that came through during your time on the water. I'm glad you enjoyed the hospitality, snacks, and the beautiful views of San Diego Bay. One of my favorite parts of sailing with small groups is being able to offer a more personal and relaxed experience that larger tour boats simply can't match. Captain Phil

Lovely sunset experience
The views were exceptional and we even got to see a bunch of dolphins! Phil also made the experience enjoyable as he is so kind and really enjoys what he does. The seating area is small but there's room to move around to get pictures, etc. The experience was definitely well worth it
Response from the operator: It was a great night in the bay. I am glad that you had such a wonderful time. Capt. Phil

San Diego Sailing Cruise Small Group 6 Guests Classic Yacht: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for San Diego.
How much does San Diego Sailing Cruise Small Group 6 Guests Classic Yacht cost?
+
Prices start at $125 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in San Diego usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does San Diego Sailing Cruise Small Group 6 Guests Classic Yacht take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in San Diego is not rushed.
Is San Diego Sailing Cruise Small Group 6 Guests Classic Yacht worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 85 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in San Diego, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule San Diego Sailing Cruise Small Group 6 Guests Classic Yacht?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is San Diego Sailing Cruise Small Group 6 Guests Classic Yacht suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book San Diego Sailing Cruise Small Group 6 Guests Classic Yacht?
+
Around 30 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in San Diego can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in San Diego and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does San Diego Sailing Cruise Small Group 6 Guests Classic Yacht start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central San Diego within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in San Diego?
+
San Diego is an outdoor-first city: whale watching from December through April, La Jolla kayak and snorkel runs year round, harbour cruises and the USS Midway, plus Balboa Park museums when the marine layer sits low. We rank water operators on group ratios and gear quality, which is where the cheap La Jolla trips fall down. On Outty we rank every San Diego experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include USS Midway Museum Admission: Valid Any Date, Taste of Little Italy in San Diego, San Diego Whale Watching Cruise. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit San Diego?
+
March to May and September to November, either side of the June overcast. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in San Diego?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
