Salkantay Trek

We booked the 4-day Salkantay Trek with Group Travel and did the tour with Xtreme Tourbulencia. Without a doubt, this was the most challenging experience of my entire life. And from the beginning we were super well attended to. The package included almost everything: food, guide, transportation, entrance to Machu Picchu, accommodation, and dinner in Aguas Calientes.. what was not included was: the sleeping bag that we had to rent, however the domes we stayed in had a bed so I didn't find it that necessary, we used it more as a blanket, and the bus to go down from Machu Picchu that we had to pay separately. Overall, I found the price quite commensurate with what was provided, the food was very good, the guide Rosel is super experienced, the accommodations were good, and the agency was always in touch with us to know how we were doing. Just an addendum, be aware that the trail is very tough. I didn't expect such effort, but I also didn't expect to see so much beauty and have so many wonderful experiences. PS: I don't think it's worth doing the 5-day trek, because that way there are two afternoons without programming, I found the 4-day tour more worthwhile. PS 2: the staff makes a big difference for the trail, it's worth renting if you don't have one.

Incredible!

The guide, Paulino, is very expert and was super attentive and patient with my pace. The landscapes are simply beautiful, the campsites and the food were very good, and all the staff were excellent. I also loved Aldair, the guide at Machu Picchu: very attentive, kind, and with a lot of knowledge. During these 4 days I learned a lot about Quechua history and culture, and I ended up completely fascinated. An incredible experience from beginning to end. Without a doubt, highly recommended.

Great Guides and Organization — Except at Machu Picchu

We did the 4-day Salkantay Trek with this company, finishing with Machu Picchu on day four. The trek itself was perfectly organized — food, logistics, and all details were excellent. I also arranged with the guide to rent a horse for the ascent toward Salkantay, which was very helpful. I would especially like to highlight the guides. They were very professional, shared a lot of interesting information, and were always attentive, checking how we were doing and ready to help at any moment. Overall, everything during the trek was absolutely perfect. The only issue was the Machu Picchu day. The company booked us Circuit 1 tickets without informing us. I expected Circuit 2, and while those are often sold out online, many companies can still secure them — this one apparently cannot, especially if you book close to the date. This became an issue because Circuit 1 is very short (about 1–1.5 hours), while our train from Aguas Calientes was only at 3 PM. That left us with around five hours with nothing to do. In the end, we managed to access Circuits 2 and 3, but without that, the day would have been quite disappointing. Overall, the Machu Picchu day felt poorly planned. It would have made more sense to arrange an earlier return instead of leaving us with so much unstructured time in Aguas Calientes.
