About this experience
When you hear people talk about Salem, often times the first thing that comes to mind is Witches, and Halloween, and ghosts and spooky fun, but there's so much more lurking in the shadows. Salem is nearly 400 years old and just like all of us, it has a dark side. An underbelly wrought with stories for the ages. Join us for our 90 min evening walking tour as we wander through the shadows and hear stories about pirates and pepper, secrets of the oldest cemetery in Salem, brutal murders, strange legal battles, curses, spiders, torture, and of course a ghost story or two. We invite you to be part of our story and Uncover Salems dark past. -All tour guides are licensed by the City of Salem and are professional storytellers .

Book this Tour!!!
If you are heading to Salem and plan on taking some tours, you need to book this tour! Jeffrey was very entertaining, knowledgeable, and engaging! It was great to learn a little more about some of Salem’s darker history - the murders and mayhem - including a bit of the Witch Trial history. Be warned this tour was not PG - and we were there for that too! It was part of what kept it so lively and fun! Thank you Jeffrey for a great tour — we’ll definitely be back!!

An amazing tour and guide
I was originally unsure about taking a tour in Salem, due to how commercialized Salem had become with Witches and Ghouls and all that. But when the tour began, I was instantly raptured by the stories the guide told me about, but more importantly, how he made jokes about the supposed supernatural nature of the industry and ghost stories around Salem, which definitely endure me to the tour as a whole. I enjoy all the stories, both widely known and unknown, the tragedy of the whole Witch Trial as whole, but also the story of the town and what happened to the major figures after such an event. Overall, I had a great experience and totally recommend it to anyone who is more interested in history of Salem then the ghost stories. Also, the tour guide was truly amazing, and I wish him the best of luck on more of these tours, specifically in October.

Not very good
While I loved learning the true history of salem, I don't think it's right for a tour guide to act like you're a complete idiot for not realizing that the people accused of witchcraft were hung and not burned. The whole point of the tour was to learn the true history, so I didn't appreciate being made fun of for that. I can tell the tour guide hates his job. And kept mentioning to other passing guides how "its almost over" while I'm sure living in Salem through the holidays is tiring, this isn't how you want a tour guide to act.

Why this scores 69
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Salem Uncovered: Dark Stories of Salem Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Salem.
How much does Salem Uncovered: Dark Stories of Salem Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $31 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Salem usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Salem Uncovered: Dark Stories of Salem Tour take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Salem is not rushed.
Is Salem Uncovered: Dark Stories of Salem Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 313 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Salem, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Salem Uncovered: Dark Stories of Salem Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Salem Uncovered: Dark Stories of Salem Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Salem Uncovered: Dark Stories of Salem Tour?
+
Around 110 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Salem can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Salem and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Salem Uncovered: Dark Stories of Salem Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Salem within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Salem?
+
Salem runs witch trial history tours, ghost and cemetery walks, museum entries and harbour trips, with October turning the whole town into a month-long event. On Outty we rank every Salem experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include History and Hauntings of Salem Guided Walking Tour, Satanic Salem Walking Tour, Salem Voodoo, Vampires, and Ghosts Guided Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Salem?
+
September to October for atmosphere, May to June for smaller crowds. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Salem?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
