    About this experience

Step into the shadows of Salem’s past on this group tour that dives deep into the dark legends and chilling true stories of the infamous Witch Trials of 1692. Walk the very streets where fear took hold, and uncover the eerie truths behind one of the most notorious chapters in Colonial America. What you'll see and do

    1. Introduction to Salem

      5 minutes here

    2. Hear about the church and graveyard's connection to the Salem Witch Trials and the sordid past of the building as well as it's haunts.

      5 minutes here

    3. Howard Street Cemetery

Hear about Giles Corey, an accused witch, and his untimely end. This is one of the most haunted sites in Salem.

      5 minutes here

    4. The Old Salem Jail (now luxury apartments) was built while execution by hanging was still practiced in Massachusetts. Some call this the Jail from Parker Bros' famous game, Monopoly. Other's may know it from being listed as one of the worst jails in America before if closed in 1992. A connection to the Salem Witch Trials leads sows the seeds to a well documented curse, and the most well-known ghost stories to Salem locals. This spot may not be a favorite to the faint of heart of those sensitive to haunts.

    Awesome tour!

Penny was an amazing tour guide! She was very informative, taught us a lot about the history and paranormal activity around Salem! It was nicely paced, and wasn’t too much walking after walking all day. Penny was also funny, and gave us plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Would recommend this tour!

A Must-Do For First Time Salem Visitors

This was my first time visiting Salem, and taking this night tour was one of the highlights of my trip. Bobby was a fantastic guide! He was super knowledgeable, entertaining, funny, and very personable. You can tell he genuinely enjoys what he does, which made the experience even better. I learned so much while still having fun, and the tour gave me exactly the kind of introduction to Salem I was hoping for. If you’re visiting for the first time, I highly recommend this tour. I’m already looking forward to coming back to Salem someday and experiencing it all again!

Response from the operator: Thank you for joining the tour. I’m glad to hear Bobby made your first visit to Salem such a highlight. Bobby brings a great mix of knowledge, humor, and personality to the experience, and it’s wonderful to know the introduction to Salem was exactly what you were hoping for. We appreciate the recommendation and hope the next visit is just as memorable.

Salem Dark history tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Salem.

How much does Salem Dark history tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $30 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Salem usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Salem Dark history tour take?

    +

Plan for about 1.3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Salem is not rushed.

Is Salem Dark history tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 97 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Salem, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Salem Dark history tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Salem Dark history tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Salem Dark history tour?

    +

Around 34 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Salem can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Salem and add a light layer if any part of the 1.3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Salem Dark history tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Salem within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Salem?

    +

Salem runs witch trial history tours, ghost and cemetery walks, museum entries and harbour trips, with October turning the whole town into a month-long event. On Outty we rank every Salem experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include History and Hauntings of Salem Guided Walking Tour, Satanic Salem Walking Tour, Salem Voodoo, Vampires, and Ghosts Guided Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Salem?

    +

September to October for atmosphere, May to June for smaller crowds. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Salem?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
