What you get

    About this experience

A Ho Chi Minh City walking tour that starts early, when Saigon is still cool and soft with not much honking and heat :) We meet at the monk monument near downtown. This is pretty heavy story, good one to hear first. Then we eat :) Grandma noodles in an alley Google Maps has never heard of. Hot dumplings, beef stew, some coffees all from my favorite neighborhood. This Saigon early riser tour also winds through the city's second biggest wet market. Locals call it the chessboard because of the alleys. You'll taste exotic Vietnamese fruits and meet the aunties who sell them. Vietnamese coffee too. Strong, made the old way. We duck into a hidden apartment block where communist families have lived for generations. I will share with you histories and stories from our Vietnamese perspective. We walk slow, stop a lot, talk about whatever we want. Three hours of local Saigon. Full belly, cats spotted along the way Just a chill morning with me who grew up on these streets.

    Breakfast and coffee Viet style

Hieu was great! We had the best time on our first morning in Ho Chi Minh City. Having been on tours similar before this tour stood out due to Hieu’s ability to connect with us, share local eats and navigate unseen parts of the city the locals tend to miss. I highly recommend this tour if you’re looking for authentic food, local neighbourhoods and laughter! Hieu was such a pleasant tour guide! Thank you!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much, Brad! So happy we could make your first morning in Ho Chi Minh City such a fun one ☺️ I’m glad you enjoyed discovering the little local corners, food and all the laughs along the way. Hope the rest of your Vietnam adventure is just as delicious! Sending a big Saigon hello 🇻🇳

A day in the life of Saigon

This was our best experience in Saigon, hands down. We felt like we were wandering the alleys, sampling as we went, with a friend… A friend who happened to be a fun, knowledgeable local! I love the small group, individualized design of Spring’s tour, and her lovely personality instantly put us at ease. So good.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much, Margos! “A friend who happened to be a local” is probably one of the sweetest descriptions I could receive 🥹 I’m so happy you felt relaxed and at home wandering through Saigon with us.

    Early tour

It's an early tour, and at first I was a bit skeptical because we had a late evening. Spring and Hieu were very friendly and knowledgeable. Noodles and dumplings to fruit tasting and fried banana fritters were interspersed with lessons about the rich history of Vietnam. I liked the tour, the food, and the guides, and will definitely go try the other tours these two offer.

Response from the operator: Hi Alex, thank you so much for trusting us with an early start, especially after a late night 😊 It means a lot that you enjoyed everything from Grandma's noodles to the fruit tasting and all the little stories along the way. We'd absolutely love to see you again if you come back to Saigon. There are still plenty more hidden corners waiting for you!

A wonderful early morning tour with a difference

A wonderful early walking tour - plenty of food in authentic locations - fruit tasting - walking through the wet market - some very interesting history locations. Grandma’s kitchen was an incredible highlight. Super-friendly and helpful guide. Even gave me very useful tips for other things to do on my own in Saigon. I recommend this tour!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your lovely review, Brian. I'm really happy Grandma's kitchen became one of your favorite memories. It was such a pleasure walking around with you, and I'm glad the tips helped too. Hope you enjoy the rest of your travels, and maybe our paths will cross again someday!

    Best tour in HCM!

This tour was hands down my favourite tour out of everything we did in Vietnam. It was incredibly authentic and refreshingly unique. I never imagined I’d enjoy seeing everyday Vietnamese life this much, but I absolutely did. Our host, Hieu, set the tone right from the start. He patiently waited for us at the meeting point even though we were a little late, a perfect reflection of how chill and unhurried Vietnamese people are. What an amazing group of people. Our first stop was a tiny neighbourhood eatery hidden in a secret alley. The noodles were so delicious. This was also where we really connected with Hieu and the rest of the group. The conversations flowed nonstop, and by the end of the tour, we genuinely felt like friends. Hieu is extremely knowledgeable, answered all our questions with ease, and his humour was top-tier, lots of laughs throughout the day. We walked through neighbourhoods to see how locals live day to day, which was eye-opening and unforgettable. So great!

Response from the operator: Wow... thank you so much for this incredible review. Reading that you felt like friends by the end of the morning honestly made my day. Those conversations are my favorite part of every tour too. I'm so grateful you gave our little hidden corners of Saigon a chance, and I hope one day we'll get to wander the streets together again :)

Saigon City Walk: Grandma Noodles, Cafe, Exotic Fruits & History: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Ho Chi Minh City.

How much does Saigon City Walk: Grandma Noodles, Cafe, Exotic Fruits & History cost?

    +

Prices start at $42 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Ho Chi Minh City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Saigon City Walk: Grandma Noodles, Cafe, Exotic Fruits & History take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Ho Chi Minh City is not rushed.

Is Saigon City Walk: Grandma Noodles, Cafe, Exotic Fruits & History worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 96 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Ho Chi Minh City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Saigon City Walk: Grandma Noodles, Cafe, Exotic Fruits & History?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Saigon City Walk: Grandma Noodles, Cafe, Exotic Fruits & History suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Saigon City Walk: Grandma Noodles, Cafe, Exotic Fruits & History?

    +

Around 34 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ho Chi Minh City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ho Chi Minh City and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Saigon City Walk: Grandma Noodles, Cafe, Exotic Fruits & History start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Ho Chi Minh City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Ho Chi Minh City?

    +

On Outty we rank every Ho Chi Minh City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Adventure Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta Tour From HCM, Cu Chi Tunnels Small-Group Tour: Vietnam War Underground Network, Cu Chi underground tour - Learn Vietnam war with others. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Ho Chi Minh City?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Ho Chi Minh City?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
