Thanut Tours - Thanut is the best guide I have every had.
From the first contact Thanut responded almost immediately and every time afterwards. He's local, grew up in Siem Reap, and speaks perfect English. Speaks clear and loud and enough to easily hear him, yet quiet enough to be respectful of the sites. He will customize your itinerary to suit your interests and your time schedule, and shows you all the hidden treasures within the sites that other guides don't both to show. He always takes a few minutes to help you take memorable photos, using all the special features in your phone. All his stops are carefully picked for clean washrooms, and if you need some food he picks local food stops that are "safe" for tourists to eat at. Not only does he take you through the countryside, he tells you what it was like growing up in the area, and how the area is changing. He really cares about making your tour memorable, going above and beyond. We told him how much we loved the red dragon fruit, so one morning he showed up with a bag of red dragon fruit as a gift. After the water village tour he took us to a lotus farm where there were several cool floating private dinning rooms. The food was very local, very safe to eat, and absolutely delicious. And after that he offered to take us back for a snack of the local treat "Nom akor tnout", a palm cake, which was so good we asked to go back to the old village to try it again. This was an extra request, and he did it as a gesture of friendship, and there was no additional charge for the extra stop. He even gave us some to take back to the hotel for late night snacking. That's how thoughtful he is. After a day with Thanut you will feel like your are hanging out in Cambodia with your best friend. Thank you Thanut for such a wonderful experience.
Response from the operator: Dear Dochot wayne, Thank you so much for this incredibly detailed and heartfelt review. Reading your words truly means the world to us. From the very first message to the final farewell, Thanut always strives to be responsive, thoughtful, and fully present for every guest. Being born and raised in **Siem Reap** allows him to share not just history, but personal stories, childhood memories, and honest insight into how Cambodia has grown and changed over the years. We’re so happy that this deeper connection made your experience even more meaningful. It’s wonderful to hear that the customized itinerary, hidden gems, carefully selected rest stops, and safe local food experiences stood out to you. Small details — from helping capture special photos to choosing clean facilities and trusted local eateries — are all part of creating a smooth and memorable journey. Your story about the red dragon fruit and the surprise gift is exactly who Thanut is. Thoughtful, genuine, and caring beyond the tour itself. Visiting the lotus farm with the floating dining rooms, enjoying authentic local dishes, and going back for “Nom akor tnout” (palm cake) just because you loved it — these are the spontaneous, friendship-driven moments that make experiences truly unforgettable. The fact that you felt it was done out of friendship, not obligation, means everything. Hearing that you felt like you were spending the day with a best friend in Cambodia is the highest compliment we could ever receive. Thank you again for your trust, your kindness, and for sharing your experience in such a beautiful way. We hope to welcome you back one day — there will always be more red dragon fruit waiting for you! Best Regards Thanuttours

A Truly Authentic Village Experience – 5 Stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Travelling alone I was looking for a tour in Siem Reap that would teach me about authentic local village life. As a keen photographer, I wanted to capture everyday scenes of Cambodian people living beyond the usual tourist areas. After some searching, I discovered Thanut Tours — one of the few experiences that takes you truly off the beaten path. Thanut, a courteous and relaxed local from a nearby village, was my personal guide for the morning. His excellent English and deep knowledge of Siem Reap’s countryside made this tour absolutely perfect for what I was looking for. Throughout the tour, I watched locals planting rice in the paddies, water buffalo lounging along the banks, and farmers harvesting fresh vegetables. We visited a rice wine distillery, fishery, mushroom farm, and a beautiful lotus farm where I sampled delicious Cambodian food. Walking through a local market gave me a wonderful glimpse into daily life — so much more authentic than the typical tourist stops. We also visited a stunning, lesser-known temple where I learned about Buddhist monks and traditional cremation practices. The monks were welcoming and it was inspiring to see them working together. I captured so many great photos, and Thanut patiently answered all my questions, sharing fascinating insights about village life in Siem Reap. If you’re looking for a unique, intimate experience that shows you the real Cambodia, book Thanut Tours. It was one of the highlights of my trip — truly five stars!
Response from the operator: Dear Thekoocat, Thank you so much for this beautifully written and thoughtful review. We’re especially honored that, as a solo traveler and passionate photographer, you chose to trust Thanut Tours for such a meaningful experience in **Siem Reap**. Creating authentic, off-the-beaten-path experiences is exactly what we aim to do, and it means so much to know it was one of the highlights of your trip. Sharing real village life — from rice paddies and water buffalo to family-run farms and local markets — offers a side of Cambodia that many visitors never get to see. We’re delighted that you were able to capture everyday moments and genuine human connections through your lens. Visiting the rice wine distillery, fishery, mushroom farm, and lotus farm — and enjoying fresh Cambodian food along the way — truly reflects the rhythm of countryside life. We’re also glad the visit to the lesser-known temple and your interaction with the monks left an impression. Experiences like that, where culture and spirituality come together in a quiet and authentic setting, are often the most memorable. Thanut will be so happy to hear that his patience, knowledge, and relaxed approach helped make your morning both inspiring and informative. Thank you again for your trust and your glowing recommendation. We hope your photographs will always bring you back to the heart of Cambodia — and we would love to welcome you again anytime. Best Wishes Thanuttours

Thanut is an Incredible Guide!
Our trip to Cambodia was AMAZING! I cannot recommend Thanut more highly. We are experienced travelers who gravitate towards getting as close as we can to the country we are visiting -- and you can only do that with a tour guide that knows the hidden gems! Thanut crafted a wonderful (and flexible!) itinerary that included people, food and places that felt incredibly special and authentic to Cambodia. We left having had the best time and wanting to come back and explore more areas of the country -- with Thanut of course!!! He is easily one of the best guides we have ever had. Can't wait to go back. Thank you Thanut for our incredible adventure in Cambodia! ☮️❤️🇰🇭
Response from the operator: Dear bj m, Wow — thank you so much for this beautiful message! It honestly makes me so happy to hear that Cambodia felt special, authentic, and memorable for you. When experienced travelers say they were able to truly connect with the people, food, and hidden gems of a country, that means everything to me. That’s always the goal — to go beyond the highlights and create something personal and meaningful. I’m especially glad you appreciated the flexibility of the itinerary. The best trips happen when there’s space to follow curiosity, discover something unexpected, and slow down to really take it all in. Hearing that this was one of your favorite guiding experiences is such a huge compliment — thank you for that trust. And I absolutely love that you’re already thinking about coming back to explore more of Cambodia… I’ll be ready whenever you are! 😊 Thank you again for your kindness, your energy, and your wonderful spirit. You’ll always have a friend here in Cambodia. 🇰🇭 Best Regards Thanuttours

Why this scores 57
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Rural Countryside Experience Tour in Siem Reap: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Siem Reap.
How much does Rural Countryside Experience Tour in Siem Reap cost?
+
Prices start at $119 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Siem Reap usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Rural Countryside Experience Tour in Siem Reap take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Siem Reap is not rushed.
Is Rural Countryside Experience Tour in Siem Reap worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Siem Reap, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Rural Countryside Experience Tour in Siem Reap?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Rural Countryside Experience Tour in Siem Reap suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Rural Countryside Experience Tour in Siem Reap?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Siem Reap can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Siem Reap and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Rural Countryside Experience Tour in Siem Reap start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Siem Reap within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Siem Reap?
+
On Outty we rank every Siem Reap experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Small-Group and Guide tours, Angkor Wat full Day 'Small Group with sunset & Tour Guide, Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Tour with Guide from Siem Reap. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Siem Reap?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Siem Reap?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
