About this experience
Drive your own husky team through Lapland’s snowy wilderness on a small-group experience designed to feel personal and authentic. Operated by The Original Aurora Hunters®, Arctic GM is a family-run company with roots in Lapland dating back to the 1600s, combining local knowledge with a strong focus on quality and guest experience. After pickup, you’ll arrive at a secluded husky farm on private land, away from busy tourist locations. Meet the energetic huskies, learn how to handle the sled, and set off on a 5–8 km self-driven safari through forests and across frozen landscapes. Each sled is shared between two guests, with the option to switch drivers. After the ride, spend time with the dogs and capture photos before relaxing by the fire with hot drinks and a traditional Lapland barbecue.

A picturesque drive through a winter wonderland
Firstly be prepared to bundle up. Lapland in Feb is cold, this was such a fun time. As a dog lover getting to see the care the team provided to the dogs and that they would make sure each team was not tired between groups was reassuring. The guide made some lovely hot dogs with warm juice or hot cocoa and was very nice. This was the highlight of my trip, the management of driving the sled wasn’t too hard and a lot of fun.

Customer Service needs improvement
Very disappointing. Was told less than 24 hours before that due to the weather, the tour was cancelled. Completely understandable as the safety of the dogs it’s important. I was told a refund would be issued - a significant amount for this tour in December. I had to continually chase this until January and it wasn’t until I opened up a case via PayPal that my refund was issued. A very stressful experience.
Response from the operator: Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear about the frustration and stress you experienced regarding the refund process following the cancellation of your tour. Weather-related cancellations may unfortunately be necessary when conditions are not suitable. At the same time, we understand how important clear communication and a smooth refund process are, and we take your comments regarding the handling and timing of your case very seriously. At Arctic GM, we are committed to constant improvement and delivering authentic Arctic adventures, recognized with multiple global awards and 20 generations of Lapland heritage. Please reach out to us directly at diana@arcticgm.com so we can review the circumstances of your case in more detail. Best regards, Diana The Arctic GM Team

A fun and interesting experience
A super fun experience made even more special by our guide, Andrew, who introduced us to the world of dog training and built a fire for a little barbecue to warm us up after the ride!

Amazing husky experience
Amazing experience, you can cuddle the huskies both before and after the tour and the ride was fantastic. The visit was a bit short, but because of the weather conditions. Staff was really friendly and available to answer to all questions. The BBQ was good (hot dog, hot chocolate and tea), but considering the price paid, they could have had more than one hot dog per person.

Dave and Lisa were great hosts!
Dave and Lisa’s husky farm is incredible. They were perfect hosts. The organizers of the tour (Artic GM) was not very helpful and the cold hotdogs at the campfire experience was ridiculous. That being said, the husky farm and Dave more than made up for the organizers deficiencies.

Rovaniemi: Drive Your Own Husky Team (5–8 km) & BBQ: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rovaniemi.
How much does Rovaniemi: Drive Your Own Husky Team (5–8 km) & BBQ cost?
+
Prices start at $219 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rovaniemi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Rovaniemi: Drive Your Own Husky Team (5–8 km) & BBQ take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rovaniemi is not rushed.
Is Rovaniemi: Drive Your Own Husky Team (5–8 km) & BBQ worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 149 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rovaniemi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Rovaniemi: Drive Your Own Husky Team (5–8 km) & BBQ?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Rovaniemi: Drive Your Own Husky Team (5–8 km) & BBQ suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Rovaniemi: Drive Your Own Husky Team (5–8 km) & BBQ?
+
Around 52 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rovaniemi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rovaniemi and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Rovaniemi: Drive Your Own Husky Team (5–8 km) & BBQ start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rovaniemi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rovaniemi?
+
On Outty we rank every Rovaniemi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights Rovaniemi: Guaranteed Viewing & Unlimited Mileage, Rovaniemi: Korouoma Canyon & Frozen Waterfalls Tour with BBQ, Rovaniemi:%100 Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunt&Free Photos. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rovaniemi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rovaniemi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
