    Highly recommend

We were sad to miss black rock beach, but Pete made up for it. He was very knowledgeable, shared lots of information, and had a wonderful fun attitude. Very good driver, too. We had a great time!

Response from the operator: Mahalo for sharing your experience with us. We’re sorry Black Sand Beach wasn’t accessible that day due to construction restrictions, but we’re thrilled to hear Pete made the journey just as memorable. His knowledge, fun energy, and safe driving are exactly what we strive to deliver on every tour. We’re grateful you chose to spend your day with Switchbacks Hawaii and so glad you had a great time. Hope to see you again on your next Maui adventure! A Hui Hou!

The road to Hana is not...

The road to Hana is not for the faint of heart, and it’s definitely not something that should be attempted by the uninitiated. To attempt this on your own will only sour the experience. Having a professional tour guide behind the wheel allowed my family to get the most out of the experience. Peter was informative, professional and knowledgeable. He enabled my family to get the most out of the experience without the stress of driving or knowing where to go.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful 5-star review and for taking the time to share your experience! We're thrilled to hear that Peter made your Road to Hana adventure stress-free, informative, and truly memorable for your family. We completely agree—the Road to Hana is a breathtaking but demanding drive, and having a knowledgeable guide like Peter behind the wheel allows everyone to fully soak in the beauty, history, and hidden gems without the worry. It's feedback like yours that reminds us why we love what we do—creating those special, hassle-free moments for families visiting Maui. Mahalo nui loa for choosing us and for the kind words about Peter. We hope to welcome you back to the islands soon for another unforgettable experience—aloha and safe travels!

    Peter is excellent!

Peter was fantastic, and led us on a memorable and customized day into an area that he know so well. His knowledge of the flora, history, and stories of the area was legendary. His patience and flexibility (need to pull to the roadside to manage a telehealth visit before we leave cell coverage? No problem!) made everyone in the family comfortable. His driving was safe yet efficient (on a pretty challenging road!). Best of all, we got to know a local for a day and get to know him and his point of view on so many things. Yes, the Road to Hana was filled with great stops and fun beaches and excellent pizza. Peter made it all super-efficient and fun. Strongly recommended!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this glowing review and for the kind words about Peter—we truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience! We're over the moon to hear that Peter delivered such a personalized, memorable day on the Road to Hana. His deep knowledge of the island's flora, rich history, and local stories really shines through in reviews like yours, and it's wonderful that his patience (even with a quick roadside telehealth stop!) and safe, efficient driving made the whole family feel at ease and comfortable. Getting to connect with a true local like Peter and hear his perspective is one of the best parts of a guided tour—it's not just about the sights, but the stories and connections that make it special. Sounds like you hit all the highlights: stunning stops, beautiful beaches, and that excellent pizza along the way! Peter knows how to make the most of every moment without the stress, and we're so glad it was super-efficient, fun, and unforgettable for your group. Mahalo nui loa for the strong recommendation and for trusting us with your Hana adventure. Peter will be thrilled to hear this—reviews like yours mean the world to our team. We'd love to have you back for more island explorations anytime—until then, aloha and safe travels!

Our eyes on the sights as our guide focused on the road!

We did a private Road to Hana tour with Melanie (“Mel”). It was awesome. Mel loves the area and she guided us with the right combo of facts, safety and fun. We loved diving in the waterfall. She took us the safest route and we created some lasting memories. It also felt like a mini food tour as we visited local fruit stands, a quality pizza place, banana bread and a local chocolate farm. The road is impressive and it is really, really nice to have a safe driver focused on the road. Vehicle was a sweet ride and Mel was sweeter. Thanks for a great day!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the fantastic review! We're thrilled to hear you had such a great experience with Mel. She's truly one of a kind—knowledgeable, passionate, and always going the extra mile to make every moment memorable. We'll be sure to pass along your kind words to her—it'll mean the world. We hope to welcome you back soon for another adventure!

Road to Hana Private Full Day Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Maui.

How much does Road to Hana Private Full Day Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $1622 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Maui usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Road to Hana Private Full Day Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Maui is not rushed.

Is Road to Hana Private Full Day Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 52 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Maui, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Road to Hana Private Full Day Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Road to Hana Private Full Day Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Road to Hana Private Full Day Tour?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Maui can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Maui and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Road to Hana Private Full Day Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Maui within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Maui?

    +

Maui's three signature days are the Hana road, the Haleakala summit sunrise and the Molokini snorkel sail, and all three are logistics problems as much as experiences. Sunrise summit entry is permit-controlled, Hana is a ten-hour driving day, and Molokini boats vary wildly in size. Our ranking rewards operators who handle permits and keep boat capacity low. On Outty we rank every Maui experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Molokini Crater + South Maui Coast Adventure from Kihei, Maui, Maui: VIP Private Road to Hana Tour with Pick Up, Road to Hana Adventure Maui Tour with Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Maui?

    +

April to May and September to October. Whale season runs December to April. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Maui?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
