Great river canoe trip with knowledgeable guide who also
Fantastic experience in a large canoe with another family, accompanied by a very knowledgeable guide who also led the steering. Our guide Claire’s knowledge of the flora and fauna was superb and really made the trip. Also, much better value for money than canoeing on one of the popular lakes.
Response from the operator: Hi there, Thank you for the wonderful review! We’re so glad you enjoyed your time on the Bow River and that Claire’s knowledge of the local flora and fauna made the experience even more special. We’ll be sure to pass along your kind words! We hope to welcome you back for another adventure on the water! Banff Canoe Club

Request Amy, we saw a bear.
Amy was amazing. She was full of knowledge, funny and very accommodating. She took many pictures for our group. We would request her and did again if we had time.
Response from the operator: Hi there, Thank you for the wonderful review! We’re so glad Amy made your experience so memorable with her knowledge, humour, and thoughtful service. And how exciting that you got to see a bear! 🐻 We’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to Amy. We’d love to welcome you back again! 😊 Banff Canoe Club

Great Canoe Trip
We loved the canoe trip with the Banff Canoe Club. Our family of four was on a large canoe with three others and we had a great time. Our guide Alec was very knowledgeable and made it a lot of fun. I would highly recommend this for families looking for a nice relaxing summer activity in Banff.
Response from the operator: Hi there, Thank you for the wonderful review! We’re so glad your family had such a fun and relaxing time on the water. We’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to Alec! Thanks for recommending us, and we hope to welcome your family back to the water again soon! Banff Canoe Club

Maegan was our lead/...
Maegan was our lead/ guide for the canoe experience. We enjoyed the experience very much! We traveled with our 4 year old and we were initially concerned how she will participate. But Maegan helped explain everything well and also showed us and explained us important landmarks, and animals/ birds. I will 100% recommend this experience.

Calm chill experience
Wonderful trip and in calm serene waters. Claire our guide was very chill, super knowledgeable, and overall a very amazing person. I would recommend small/private canoe as a big one with other group might be annoying to some. We're likely coming back for kayak experience...
Response from the operator: Hi Fadiah, Thank you for your wonderful review! We're so glad to hear you enjoyed such a peaceful and relaxing experience on the water. We'll be sure to pass your kind words along to Claire. She'll be thrilled to hear that her calm approach, knowledge, and friendly personality helped make your trip so memorable. There's something truly special about experiencing Banff from the water, taking the time to slow down and enjoy the scenery, wildlife, and peaceful surroundings. We're also happy to hear you're considering coming back for a kayak experience—we'd love to welcome you back for another adventure! Thank you again for your recommendation, and we hope to see you on the river again soon! Banff Canoe Club

Why this scores 74
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
River Explorer | Big Canoe Tour in Banff National Park: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Banff.
How much does River Explorer | Big Canoe Tour in Banff National Park cost?
+
Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Banff usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does River Explorer | Big Canoe Tour in Banff National Park take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Banff is not rushed.
Is River Explorer | Big Canoe Tour in Banff National Park worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 170 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Banff, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule River Explorer | Big Canoe Tour in Banff National Park?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is River Explorer | Big Canoe Tour in Banff National Park suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 2. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 1.5-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book River Explorer | Big Canoe Tour in Banff National Park?
+
Around 59 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Banff can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Banff and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does River Explorer | Big Canoe Tour in Banff National Park start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Banff within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Banff?
+
On Outty we rank every Banff experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and the Icefields Parkway Full-Day Tour, Hop-On and Hop-Off Banff Bus, ShuttleBus 2way Banff to Lake Louise (1Hr) and Moraine Lake (1Hr). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Banff?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Banff?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
