An unforgettable morning of rafting on the Sarapiquí River! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

An unforgettable morning of rafting on the Sarapiquí River! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What a beautiful morning on the Sarapiquí River with Arenal Rafting! The trip was challenging, the scenery unique, and the whole thing felt like a real adventure. The guides were excellent, both in the raft and in the accompanying kayaks. The kayak guides also took fantastic photos of our adventure, which are a great souvenir. Absolutely recommended! Thank you to the whole team for an amazing morning. Warm regards, Eric & Phyllis Dietz

Great tour and guide experience. Would highly recommend.

Amazing rafting level III tour for 11:30 am departure for Rio Sarapiqui river. Highly recommend this. Special shout out to Fabricio (bus and our raft guide) was everything you can ask for (professional, informative, funny, patient, capable, safe), our bus driver, Mario, and the rest of the team who served us food, and looked after us on the water. Some details below (spoilers so be warned): - We street parked (plenty of space) at the departure location, checked in by confirming name and introducing our guide, and nice big waiting area with tables/seats and bathrooms and drinks (coffee/juice/water). - When I asked about lockers they recommended we just bring everything and leave in shuttle as it will be manned and looked after by our driver so that’s what we did. - Drive took about an hour and we signed waiver and the guide gave us some info (in Spanish and English) on the local scenery and rafting key words/actions instructions and safety. - On arrival to the river, we waited 5 min for the rafting cart to arrive so we could wear the helmets, and life vests. No bathroom or changing areas there so if you have to go it would have to be in the nearby wooded area. We took some photos there as we didn’t bring our phones. I think I could have had an over the neck pouch behind my vest to use later on our snack stop or in between rapids, but would be at your risk of losing it as no one would be able to find it if drops in. - The guide will inform you where to sit (based on experience, etc) as he will be in back to steer. I was in the front left, while an older lady was next to the guide, and younger kids in middle. - There is a kayak person who trails us to pickup anything that falls (like paddles) and there are photographers front and back pictures if you want to buy photos later - Listen to the guide as his key words mentioned in the shuttle prevented anyone from falling out at rough rapid moments. One of us most likely would have fallen out if he didn’t call out in time. The guide also had to get out a few times to move the raft stuck on rocks. - Guide pointed out multiple birds we saw and a Monkey in a tree. He was also entertaining us with daring jumps in boat and out. - About midway, we stopped for snacks like pineapple and watermelon. We also had opportunity to jump off an elevated hill into the water. Near the end, we will have opportunity to jump out and float to the end. - At the end, we help carry the raft out of the water to storage, get out stuff from the waiting shuttle to change/use bathroom, wash feet, they give towels and mini water bottles, then we walk over to their cafeteria for lunch wrap (chicken or veggie) with juice for an hour, show your photos on TV and can reserve photos (145 of them) via multiple emails, and head back to office to pay $40. I still had my phone and everything in the shuttle so had to borrow a phone tonscan the QR code to input my info. - I tipped the driver and my guide, who also happenned to be my raft guide too, as another group had someone else guide them on the river.

Great - and safe - fun!

First white water rafting experience and we loved it! Be prepared to get wet 😀 The water was lovely and warm when we visited in March, and there were plenty of chances to pause and have a quick swim. The guides were great - they explained what we needed to do, pointed out and gave information about wildlife and vegetation on the way. Safety equipment was provided and we felt safe throughout - but still felt exhilarated.

Rio Sarapiqui Rafting Class III Afternoon Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Fortuna.

How much does Rio Sarapiqui Rafting Class III Afternoon Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $77 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Fortuna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Rio Sarapiqui Rafting Class III Afternoon Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Fortuna is not rushed.

Is Rio Sarapiqui Rafting Class III Afternoon Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 83 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 129 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Fortuna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Rio Sarapiqui Rafting Class III Afternoon Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Rio Sarapiqui Rafting Class III Afternoon Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Rio Sarapiqui Rafting Class III Afternoon Tour?

    +

Around 45 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Fortuna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Fortuna and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

    +

What are the best things to do in La Fortuna?

    +

On Outty we rank every La Fortuna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Upper Balsa River White Water Rafting Class 3/4 in Costa Rica, White Water Rafting Class II and III, Authentic Coffee and Chocolate Tour at North Fields. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit La Fortuna?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in La Fortuna?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
