RUNDALE PALACE Arriving at Rundale Palace is a true “wow” moment as you may not expect to see such an 18th century gem in the Latvian countryside! Most of the interior decorations were created between 1765 and 1768 when a sculptor from Berlin Johann Michael Graff, and Italian painters from St. Petersburg Francesco Martini and Carlo Zucchi worked at the palace. BAUSKA CASTLE Bauska Castle is the only castle in Latvia illustrating the expressions of renaissance and mannerism architecture and decorative arts in the Duchy of Courland HILL OF CROSSES(LT) Myth surrounds this unusual site of pilgrimage with no confirmed version of its story. For years, even centuries, visitors have placed crosses here, each for their own reason. The hill has been reborn numerous times after attempts to destroy it under Soviet rule. Individually tailored and privately organized tour.

    2. Siauliu Rajono Turizmo Ir Verslo Informacijos Centras (hill Of Crosses)

Desecrated but never destroyed, set on fire but never burned down, the Hill of Crosses is a potent symbol of faith, hope, and freedom. And for pilgrims, it is another must-visit location in Lithuania. The Hill of Crosses near Šiauliai is a hill covered with thousands of wooden crosses. During the Soviet era, these crosses were removed by the authorities, but locals continuously replaced them. In 1993, Pope John Paul II prayed here, and he often mentioned the sacred site in his homilies and speeches. He later sent a crucifix to Lithuania which was placed on the hill, and today pilgrims begin and end their journeys at this location.

    Overall great experience....

Overall great experience. Our guide Kristina took great care of us, made our trip memorable, shared knowledge about Latvia and the castles with us, made our journey comfortable. Only thing was contacting for tour rescheduling from afternoon to morning was vague, why put the options of travelling in afternoon in the first place if they were going to close late afternoon. Also the ticket always showed Hill of Crosses also which we neither booked nor intended to go.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback. We are very pleased to hear that you had a great overall experience and that Kristina took good care of you, made your journey comfortable, and shared her knowledge about Latvia and its castles. We would just like to clarify two points for future guests reading this review. Your pickup was provided at the time specified in your booking. The suggestion regarding an earlier departure was made only to ensure that you would have sufficient time to comfortably visit the attractions before their closing times. Regarding the Hill of Crosses, our product is listed as a Bauska & Rundale tour with the Hill of Crosses available as an optional extension. We offer different booking options, including both with and without the Hill of Crosses. As your selected option did not include it, the Hill of Crosses was not part of your itinerary. We appreciate your comments and are glad that, most importantly, you enjoyed the tour and your time with Kristina. Thank you for travelling with us!

    A german tour was booked,...

A german tour was booked, but unfortunately not kept. We were disappointed. The driver was very nice.

Response from the operator: Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback. We are genuinely sorry and also somewhat surprised to read that you were disappointed with your experience. Before the tour, our host contacted you specifically to clarify the language arrangements. It was explained that the driver would be English-speaking and that you would receive tour materials/booklets in German, which you confirmed was acceptable. We would also like to clarify that the tour description states that guests receive informational materials in their preferred language — in your case, German. It does not state that the driver will conduct the entire tour in German. According to our driver and our communication during the tour, you appeared to enjoy the experience. In addition to the booked itinerary, our driver made every effort to make your day special: he shared information about Latvia and the Baltic countries, recommended places to visit, provided additional sightseeing suggestions for Vilnius, and even took you on an extra tour through Riga’s Art Nouveau district and to an Orthodox church during the Trinity celebrations. We were also happy to offer several complimentary local treats, including fresh strawberries, Riga Black Balsam and Latvian chocolates. For these reasons, your one-star review came as a genuine surprise to us, particularly as you expressed your appreciation to the driver personally and generously tipped him at the end of the tour. We always respect our guests’ opinions, but we also kindly encourage travellers to carefully review the language information and inclusions in the activity description before booking, as we make every effort to describe exactly what is provided. We are nevertheless pleased to hear that you found our driver very nice, and we wish you all the best on your future travels.
