We are so stuffed!
We had lots of fun on our food tour of historic Richmond today. Wonderful learning some history as we walked around the town between our dining experiences. Kahrell was a fun guide who loved sharing information about the city, and Maddie, who was a guide trainee, also had lots to share. It was great having both of them as our guides today! Our favorite foods were the She Crab Soup, the Goat Cheese Garden Pizza on sourdough crust, and the Red Velvet Waffles! And there was so much other food that we also enjoyed! We are so stuffed! We will definitely be planning more food tours as we visit other cities in our future travels!
Response from the operator: We really appreciate you sharing this with us! Knowing the tour brought something extra to your time in the city is exactly the kind of feedback our team values. We hope to see you back with Secret Food Tours someday.

Would be good with a few tweaks.
I have done a lot of food tours and noticed two things on this tour that were not great. First, our guide, Kharnell, was lovely. Just new on the job so I give him grace for sure. However, we found it odd that he never ordered ahead and didn’t announce we were a food tour upon arrival. We walked in like a regular table and were handed menus and asked what we wanted to order. Our guide said one order of whatever we were sampling that day and we were fine with water. It was super uncomfortable and the servers all seemed a bit confused. This also meant nothing was ready when we arrived so we waited an inordinate amount of time at each stop. The second thing I didn’t like was the last food stop which was an Ethiopian restaurant. This was a communal dining experience which I think is an inappropriate choice for a group of strangers. Like everyone digging into the same plate of food with the bread as your spoon. There was double dipping and licking of fingers and this grossed me out so much. The owner was lovely and very gracious, however, this has no business being on a food tour.
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your feedback and for joining our Richmond food tour, Terri. Guest feedback like yours is valuable as we continuously refine our tours and work to create the best possible experience for everyone joining us. Each stop is chosen to highlight the local food scene and its cultural story, but we understand that dining styles and preferences can vary from guest to guest. We do appreciate your honest perspective, and it helps us as we continue improving the overall flow and guest experience. We’d love the opportunity to welcome you again on another tour in the future and provide you with an even better experience.

We enjoyed an our time with Kahrell! He was friendly, knowledgeable about the city and a delightful table companion!
Response from the operator: We truly appreciate this review. It’s wonderful to hear the tour gave you a chance to enjoy both the local food and the atmosphere around it. Secret Food Tours would be delighted to have you back!

Why this scores 46
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Richmond's Historic Market Food Tour with 5 Authentic Tastings: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Richmond.
How much does Richmond's Historic Market Food Tour with 5 Authentic Tastings cost?
+
Prices start at $109 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Richmond usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Richmond's Historic Market Food Tour with 5 Authentic Tastings take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Richmond is not rushed.
Is Richmond's Historic Market Food Tour with 5 Authentic Tastings worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 46 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.8/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Richmond, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Richmond's Historic Market Food Tour with 5 Authentic Tastings?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Richmond's Historic Market Food Tour with 5 Authentic Tastings suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Richmond's Historic Market Food Tour with 5 Authentic Tastings?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Richmond can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Richmond and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Richmond's Historic Market Food Tour with 5 Authentic Tastings start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Richmond within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Richmond?
+
Richmond mixes Civil War and Black history tours with urban whitewater rafting on the James River, Hollywood Cemetery walks, mural rides and brewery crawls. On Outty we rank every Richmond experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include RVATukTuk Sightseeing Tour of Richmond, Richmond Downtown Walking Tour, Church Hill Food Tour with Discover Richmond Tours. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Richmond?
+
April to June and September to October. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Richmond?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
