Best part of my trip to Venice!

I was expecting this experience to be unique and special, and I was looking forward to it as a highlight of our trip. I could not have anticipated how far it would exceed my expectations. Valerio put us at ease instantly, guiding us as we chose our ingredients from the market, always considerate of our needs and interests, yet introducing us to new flavors (both literally and figuratively). Making the meal together in his home felt natural and fun thanks to Valerio's authentic warmth and hospitality. We never stopped talking as he led us through this culinary experience, and he shared details of life in Venice we could never have learned from a guidebook. He did not rush at all, and it truly felt like we were having lunch with a friend. His additional recommendations for things to do and see in Venice helped us to make the most of our limited time in this beautiful city. I can not recommend Valerio and this authentic Venetian experience more highly!

Response from the operator: Dear Mary, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your truly touching words. It was a joy to welcome you into my home and share this culinary and cultural moment together. I'm so glad the experience went beyond your expectations and felt natural and meaningful — just like spending time with a friend. Wishing you all the best, and I hope our paths cross again in Venice! Warmly, Valerio

A Highlight of My Venice Trip!!

While visiting Venice, I had the pleasure of booking a tour with Valerio for fish shopping at Rialto Market followed by home cooking in Murano. The experience was nothing short of extraordinary and truly authentic. We began our day at Rialto Market, selecting fresh, local ingredients under Valerio's expert guidance. From there, we traveled to his lovely home in Murano, where he prepared a mouthwatering multi-course meal, perfectly paired with libations for each course. What made the experience even more special was how hands-on it was—my friend and I got to help with some of the preparations, which made the meal feel even more personal and rewarding. Throughout the day, Valerio’s warm and engaging personality shone. He answered all our questions about life in Italy with patience and enthusiasm, sharing fascinating insights into local culture and traditions. Despite our endless curiosity, he never seemed to tire of our company and made us feel completely at home. To top it off, Valerio provided excellent recommendations for other unique experiences and activities we could try during our trip. His hospitality, knowledge, and passion for sharing the Italian way of life made this tour the highlight of my visit to Venice. If you’re looking for an authentic, unforgettable experience in Venice, I cannot recommend Valerio enough. He is the perfect host and guide, and this experience is not to be missed!

Response from the operator: Dear Loriann, thank you so much for your incredibly kind and thoughtful words. I’m truly touched by your description and thrilled that the experience left such a meaningful impression. Sharing my passion for Venetian life, food, and culture with curious and engaged guests like you is what makes this job so rewarding. It was a pleasure to welcome you both into my home, and I'm glad the day felt as personal and enjoyable for you as it did for me. Wishing you many more beautiful journeys — and I hope Venice calls you back again soon! Warmest regards, Valerio

Highlight of Our Trip to Venice

I really did not know what to expect when my wife signed me up for an Italian Cooking Class for our May 2024 visit to Venice, Italy. It seems that somehow I never inherited the “cooking gene” and this was my wife’s opportunity to fix that problem. We were traveling with her sister and husband, their first visit to Venice. For about four hours, we were the students and our professor was master Italian cook, Valerio. Valerio met us at 11:00h near the public market adjacent to Rialto Bridge. We immediately discovered that Valerio was more than a cooking instructor, with his encyclopedic knowledge of Venice and its history. The first order of business was to select fresh tomatoes, artichokes, lettuce, potatoes, fish, shrimp, freshly cut rosemary leaves, and parsley. Valerio explained his methods for finding the best produce and fish. We next stopped at a bakery for fresh whole grain bread and a dessert. After a gondola ride from the market to the Vaporetto Station, we were soon on our way to Valerio’s home on the Island of Murano. Once there, Valerio patently explained his plan and assigned us roles that matched our skill levels. I was initially assigned to cut the bread, and I am proud to say that I still have the same number of fingers. I also cut the tomatoes for the salad. My fellow students raved at how skillfully the bread and tomatoes were cut. The five of us enjoyed drinks of Prosecco, mixed with a variety of aperitives. An excellent local white wine was also served. Food started with a lettuce and tomato salad along with bronze cut spaghetti served with a homemade tomato sauce. Valerio guided us through the preparation of the fish, a fresh water bass stuffed with salt, olive oil, and rosemary leaves. I expected the fish to taste salty, but instead it was richly delicious. After enjoying more Prosecco and the culinary results of our efforts, we enjoyed a chocolate cake dessert followed by after dinner drinks. We came away with a great appreciation for Italian food, Venetian style. If you are planning a trip to Venice and enjoy Italian food (who doesn’t), Valerio’s Italian Cooking Class should not be missed. Without question, it was the highlight of our visit to Venice. Valerio’s cooking class rates five out of five stars.

Venetian Cooking with Mini Private Tour

This experience with Valerio was amazing! I was traveling with my parents and we asked to do a private tour for Covid concerns and this turned out to be the best decision ever! We came to Venice for the day from where we were staying in Bologna and Valerio met us right at the train station and essentially gave us a private tour of Venice. We learned so much history about the neighborhoods, the canals, the address system, etc. He taught us tricks about getting around Venice, and we learned about native shrimp and seafood to the local lagoon. We went to the Rialto fish market to pick up fresh ingredients and then went to the Island of Murano to his lovely home to cook. We probably never would have gone to this island had we not had this experience! We got to make artichoke hearts, roasted fish with fresh herbs and lemon, roasted potatoes and fresh shrimp with spaghetti in a yummy tomato sauce. These dishes were very simple, but delicious! He was such a knowledgeable, friendly, and hospitable host and we learned so much from him! We're not big drinkers so he might have been a bit disappointed that we didn't drink a full bottle of wine or finish our pre lunch cocktails, but he did manage to get my mom to try an amaro which is a big feat! He even recommended places for us to grab some Cicchetti before we had to head back to Bologna.. Overall, I would definitely recommend this tour as a way to learn about and appreciate Venice from a native venetian, and to cook some delicious fresh seafood!

Response from the operator: Thank you for your kind words, Erika! We are so glad that you and your parents had a wonderful experience with Valerio and that you were able to learn so much about Venice and its culture. We hope you enjoyed the delicious seafood dishes you cooked and that you had a great time exploring the city!

Rialto Market & Seafood Cooking Class in Murano: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Venice.

How much does Rialto Market & Seafood Cooking Class in Murano cost?

    +

Prices start at $31 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Venice usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Rialto Market & Seafood Cooking Class in Murano take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Venice is not rushed.

Is Rialto Market & Seafood Cooking Class in Murano worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 19 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Venice, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Rialto Market & Seafood Cooking Class in Murano?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Rialto Market & Seafood Cooking Class in Murano suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Rialto Market & Seafood Cooking Class in Murano?

    +

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Venice can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Venice and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Rialto Market & Seafood Cooking Class in Murano start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Venice within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Venice?

    +

On Outty we rank every Venice experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Pasta and Tiramisu Cooking Class with Wine in Venice, Eating Venice Small Group Food & Drinks Tour, Venice Bacaro Food Tour: Eat and Drink like a Venetian. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Venice?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Venice?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
