What you get
About this experience
Leave Reykjavík behind and hunt for the Northern Lights in Iceland’s winter wilderness aboard a spacious comfort coach with Wi-Fi and restroom facilities. Throughout the evening, our experienced team monitors live weather, cloud cover, and aurora activity to find the most promising viewing locations. Praised by guests for their knowledge, enthusiasm, and determination, our guides have even been called true “Aurora Whisperers.” Rather than following a fixed route, they adapt the journey in search of darker skies, clearer conditions, and stronger activity. Along the way, learn about the science behind the Aurora and receive practical tips for photographing it with your phone or camera. Enjoy complimentary hot chocolate while waiting beneath Iceland’s night sky. As sightings cannot be guaranteed, you may join one additional scheduled departure free of charge if no Northern Lights are seen, subject to availability.

When the Fine Print Matters More Than the Customer
To my world traveler community that depends on my reviews: save the Northern Lights for a better viewing season (Aug is a No go), read cancellation and rescheduling policies carefully, and spend your money with a company whose customer service extends beyond the fine print.

Very knowledgeable guide...
Very knowledgeable guide with great stories about the history of Iceland and the best places to find the lights, even in times with little activity. Our bus broke down in the middle (not to the fault of the company) and they handled the situation professionally.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your experience with us! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour and appreciated our guide’s knowledge and storytelling about Iceland and the Northern Lights. While a breakdown is very rare (and never ideal!) we’re glad our team was able to handle the situation professionally and keep the experience as smooth as possible. Your understanding means a lot to us. We hope to welcome you back to Iceland for another adventure in the future!

Fun and Informative Trip
Guide was funny and informative, as well as very thorough about searching out good spots to view the lights + helping people to figure out the best camera settings.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your kind words! We’re really glad you enjoyed the tour and that the guide could make the experience both fun and informative. We hope to welcome you again on another adventure in Iceland!

No Aurora but still worth it
Didn't get to see the lights but Daniel was really knowledgeable about the conditions that should be present. Maybe next time the Aurora will come out to play. The booking is good for a couple of years according to Daniel
Response from the operator: Thank you for your kind review! We’re glad you still enjoyed the experience even without the aurora 😊 Daniel will be happy to hear your feedback. And yes-your ticket remains valid for a free retry within 2 years. Fingers crossed for a brighter show next time!

Northern lights tour
Too much time wasted on the hot chocolate and snack….the hot chocolate was watery too. Would have liked to have gone to more spots to see the northern lights. It was a bit disappointing. Description said 4 hours but we were back early.
Response from the operator: Thanks for your feedback, we really appreciate it. I’m sorry to hear the tour didn’t fully meet your expectations. The hot chocolate stop is meant to be a nice extra, but it shouldn’t take away from time spent chasing the lights, so we’ll definitely review this, including the quality. I also understand your point about visiting more locations and the tour finishing earlier than expected, we’ll look into that as well. We do hope you still enjoyed seeing the Northern Lights, as that’s always the highlight. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

Why this scores 70
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Reykjavik: Northern Lights Coach Tour with Local Hunters: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Reykjavik.
How much does Reykjavik: Northern Lights Coach Tour with Local Hunters cost?
+
Prices start at $75 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Reykjavik usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Reykjavik: Northern Lights Coach Tour with Local Hunters take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Reykjavik is not rushed.
Is Reykjavik: Northern Lights Coach Tour with Local Hunters worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 71 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Reykjavik, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Reykjavik: Northern Lights Coach Tour with Local Hunters?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Reykjavik: Northern Lights Coach Tour with Local Hunters suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Reykjavik: Northern Lights Coach Tour with Local Hunters?
+
Around 25 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Reykjavik can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Reykjavik and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Reykjavik: Northern Lights Coach Tour with Local Hunters start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Reykjavik within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Reykjavik?
+
On Outty we rank every Reykjavik experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Reykjavik Food Walk - Local Foodie Adventure in Iceland, Small-Group Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon with Ticket & Kerid Crater, Reykjavík Small group Walking Tour - by CityWalk. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Reykjavik?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Reykjavik?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
