    Lucky to have seen them

Beware, if that's your first time you need to know that 99% of the time you'll only see some kind of gray clouds above your head. Only your camera can pick it up correctly because the lens is focused for several seconds of pause. Rarely you'll see them like they're on the pictures. You also need to know that it takes an average of 3 times before being able to see them. It's only up to the weather and the lack of clouds (the real one) on the sky. For me it looks me 6 tries. Yes, 6. That being said, it was done in a small bus of 17 people in total. You won't have a long explanation about this phenomenon, that's not included in the price. You also will be taken in the most touristic spots, so you'll meet other travelers. If you think you'd be alone, think again. That's not what you're paying for. Nevertheless that was a great experience because we were able to see a lot of them that night. My patience, after 5 previous tries finally paid of. As it comes to the organization, they'll give you hot drink because as you can guess, it was freezing, especially since I had to take off my gloves to take the pics. The excursion lasted approximately less than 3 hours and worth Ed every penny. I recommend it.

Response from the operator: Hi, thank you for your detailed and honest review! You’re absolutely right – the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and can vary a lot depending on weather and conditions, which makes every sighting a bit of luck and patience ✨ We’re really glad it paid off for you in the end and that you enjoyed the experience. Thank you as well for highlighting the organization and overall value!

    Scary experience

Unfortunately, this was a really scary experience. The driver was going extremely fast in near white out conditions. We slid going around every turn. At one point we nearly slid off the road into a body of water. At this point the driver actually sped up instead of slowing down! The driver was very nice and we did see the northern lights. However, I feared for my safety the entirety of this trip.

Response from the operator: Hi, thank you for your feedback, and we’re truly sorry to hear that you felt unsafe during the tour. Safety is our absolute top priority, and this is not the standard we aim for. We take your comments very seriously and will investigate this internally with the driver. We’re glad you were able to see the Northern Lights, but we sincerely regret that the experience caused you stress.

Great Experience - Saw the lights!

Roman was a Great guide, very enthusiastic. Took pictures with his camera and sent them to us. Just know that when you go to meet your bus, there will be several more buses at the same pick up site. Maybe 20. That part was a bit hectic. Will not give away the surprise 😉

Response from the operator: Thank you for your lovely review! We're very happy you got to see the northern lights and that Roman made the experience so enjoyable. We'll be sure to pass your kind words on to him. And thank you for keeping the surprise a secret!

Reykjavik: Northern Lights Small Group with Local Hunters: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Reykjavik.

How much does Reykjavik: Northern Lights Small Group with Local Hunters cost?

    +

Prices start at $95 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Reykjavik usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Reykjavik: Northern Lights Small Group with Local Hunters take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Reykjavik is not rushed.

Is Reykjavik: Northern Lights Small Group with Local Hunters worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 15 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Reykjavik, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Reykjavik: Northern Lights Small Group with Local Hunters?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Reykjavik: Northern Lights Small Group with Local Hunters suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Reykjavik: Northern Lights Small Group with Local Hunters?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Reykjavik can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Reykjavik and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Reykjavik: Northern Lights Small Group with Local Hunters start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Reykjavik within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Reykjavik?

    +

On Outty we rank every Reykjavik experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Reykjavik Food Walk - Local Foodie Adventure in Iceland, Small-Group Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon with Ticket & Kerid Crater, Reykjavík Small group Walking Tour - by CityWalk. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Reykjavik?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Reykjavik?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
