A Great Arctic Wildlife Experience, but Watch the Limited Bus Schedule!
Ranua Wildlife Zoo is located near Rovaniemi and primarily houses Arctic and polar animals. The park itself isn't massive; you can easily walk the entire loop in about 2 to 3 hours just by following the numbered paths on the map. While tickets can be purchased online in advance, buying them on-site is also an option. Transportation can be a bit tricky. During the summer, there is only one bus service in the morning and one in the afternoon, so you really have to keep an eye on the schedule. Even though it was summer, the temperature plummeted to just 2°C on the day of my visit. It was raining quite hard, so many of the animals were hiding and seeking shelter. Once the rain let up, I managed to spot some foxes and owls, a polar bear pacing back and forth, and a brown bear sitting near the front of its enclosure, looking like it was waiting to be fed. Overall, the animals seem to have a great living environment with plenty of space to roam, though the polar bear did look a bit lonely. There is an on-site restaurant that offers an all-you-can-eat buffet. While the selection isn't huge, the food is actually quite tasty, and a bowl of hot soup was incredibly comforting on such a freezing day. Before you enter the park, staff will take your photo at the entrance. Perhaps because it was a quiet day with few visitors, a staff member actually tracked us down while we were eating to ask if we wanted to buy the print. Finally, the souvenir shop is fantastic. It is packed with adorable animal plushies and unique keepsakes, including several arctic species you rarely see in standard gift shops.

Wonderful time with StayLapland!
We had two tours with StayLapland, the Northern Lights Tour in Atmospheric Cottage and the Ranua Wildlife Park. Both were amazing experiences, with warm winter overall included. The two guides we had, Yannika and Valtteri, were wonderful people, kind and eager to make your experience a very pleasant one! Thanks a lot from France!
