Great Experience and Guide for Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley with picnic
After our Inca Trail Trek was cancelled because of closure of trail because of weather, we booked a few other shorter excursions with Trexperience including this one day Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Tour. We did the option with picnic breakfast and lunch. Our guide Romario was incredible -- the best Trexperience guide of the three we had during our different excursions! He was friendly, patient, spoke excellent English and had a real knack for sharing interesting tidbits of culture and knowledge along the way. Having him as our guide really enhanced our whole experience! It was an early morning pick-up with a 2.5 hour drive to our picnic site up in the mountains, We had a delicious breakfast before continuing to the trail-head. The hike itself, challenging because of the altitude, was incredible with amazing views both along the way, but especially at the top. There were many people at the summit of Vinicunca (Rainbow Mtn.) and you have to wait in a bit of a line to get your turn at a photo with no other people in it. Then we continued a bit further to the Red Valley which honestly was even more beautiful (particularly because it was much less crowded)! The vistas were stunning! And plenty of wild alpaca along the way too! Finally, we hiked back and then had another delicious meal waiting for us before the drive back to Cusco. I would whole-heartedly recommend this experience! Do yourself a favor and request Romario -- he was the best!

We got a really nice day with our guide Flavio. The experience was intense with our family and little kids, but Flavio explained everything and guide us to do this trek and appreciate the beautiful mountain. Our family really recommends with this guide Flavio a must to have a memorable moment.

Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley
What an amazing experience to have while visiting the Cusco region. My guide, Romario was excellent. He was very friendly, easy to talk to and knowledgeable of the region. We took the hike at a nice pace, took water breaks when needed. He reached out the before to let me know pick up time and to pack. The breakfast and lunch preps was awesome, very good! I enjoyed getting to Romario and our chat on the hike. He convinced me that I need to come back and take part in the four day Inca trial hike. One we got to the mountain, he gave us time to explore the area and took photos for me as well to document the amazing experience. I highly recommended Romario if you have the opportunity to request him. Maybe I wlll luck out and he will be my guide for the Inca trail!! Words can’t describe the experience. Thank you, Romario!!

Why this scores 78
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Full-Day Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cusco.
How much does Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Full-Day Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $115 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cusco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Full-Day Tour take?
+
Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cusco is not rushed.
Is Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Full-Day Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 121 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Full-Day Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Full-Day Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 3. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 12-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Full-Day Tour?
+
Around 42 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Full-Day Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cusco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Cusco?
+
On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Peruvian Cooking Class Cocktails and Market Tour in Cusco, Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cusco?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cusco?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
