Great service with Happy Gringo

The one-day tour to the rainbow mountain by horse was very spectacular, the food was very good, the guide was very knowledgeable, and the mountain was very impressive. Highly recommended!

Loved our experience, guide, and driver!

Marco (our guide) and Melquiades (our driver) took us out in the morning and were very flexible and accommodating for us! The hike to rainbow mountain was much harder than I thought it would be but Marco made sure to go our pace, bought us some smelling essence for elevation sickness, and made sure to be prepared with an oxygen mask if needed. He made sure that we all had a good time, and was an amazing guide!

Rainbow Mountain

This trip was booked through TripAdvisor, but the actual company was Happy Gringos. Next time I would book directly through them, not TripAdvisor (long story). This 5 star rating is for Happy Gringos. They were amazing and accommodating. Our guide, Javier (Shabby (sp?)) was the best! He was so easy to work with and made sure that everything went smoothly. I would absolutely recommend the horses. My family and I in decent shape, but I never would have made it without the horses. I took the elevation for granted. It kicked my butt! However, that being said, it was well worth it! The view was absolutely breathtaking.

Bait and switch

Seeing Rainbow Mountain was amazing! I originally signed up for horseback, but was told by my guide, Marcelo, that I weighed too much and was told i could either walk or get a motorcycle. I opted for a ride, then was offered rides down by horse by the people at the top. Perhaps the guide is misinformed on what the requirements are, but have an expectation that the guide would advise the same things the guides on the mountain with the horses would give. I reached out to the company to get a refund on the difference between the more expensive horseback trip to motorcycle and was initially answered that they would ask the people in charge. After asking twice since then, I am no longer getting any communication from them. I highly recommend rainbow mountain but strongly discourage others from using this company.

Response from the operator: Hello, dear Francis; Thanks for your opinion! We sincerely apologize for your experience and the frustration caused by the lack of follow-up. Weight limits for horseback riding are set for animal welfare and safety, but we should have communicated this clearly before booking and ensured consistent guidance. We regret the confusion between our guide and the on-site team, and the delay in responding to your refund request falls short of our standards. Your feedback has been escalated to management for immediate review. We’d like to make this right. Please contact us directly at [customerservice@gmail.com or +51 992499446] so we can resolve this promptly and restore your confidence in our service. Warm regards, Happy Gringo Team!

Our dreams came true 😭

We had an amazing tour to the rainbow mountain by horse. Our tour guide was extremely knowleadgeable about the history of the Incas and rainbow mountain Vinicunca. We highly recommend this tour operator when you visit Cusco and Machu Picchu.

Rainbow Mountain on Horseback 1-Day Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cusco.

How much does Rainbow Mountain on Horseback 1-Day Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $150 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cusco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Rainbow Mountain on Horseback 1-Day Tour take?

+

Plan for about 12.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cusco is not rushed.

Is Rainbow Mountain on Horseback 1-Day Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Rainbow Mountain on Horseback 1-Day Tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Rainbow Mountain on Horseback 1-Day Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 12.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Rainbow Mountain on Horseback 1-Day Tour?

+

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 12.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Rainbow Mountain on Horseback 1-Day Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cusco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cusco?

+

On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Peruvian Cooking Class Cocktails and Market Tour in Cusco, Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cusco?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cusco?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
