Amazing Experience with Jose

We had a great experience visiting Rainbow Mountain with Jose as our guide. We left at 5 am, took a private car for a few hours, stopped for a breakfast buffet (also got a lunch buffet on the way back), and continued on our way to Rainbow Mountain. Jose provided an anti-altitude spray that seemed to work because we never experienced any sickness. We opted to ride horses to the base of the mountain instead of hike, which in my opinion was a lot more fun. We were also among the first 10 people at the top of Rainbow Mountain! I Jose gave us the full history of the mountain and brought such great energy the entire time. He also took a ton of photos for us in many different spots, which was very much appreciated. There was something intimate about visiting this special place with just Jose as our guide, avoiding the massive crowds and tour buses. Couldn’t recommend this excursion enough!

Spectacular Views and Fantastic Guide

Jose was an incredible guide. He was very friendly and we had some good laughs along the way. We had a WONDERFUL hike with him! The restaurant was also a treat- good food and friendly service. The hike can be challenging, but this tour is a must!!! The beauty of Rainbow Mountain and the Red Valley are breathtaking!!!

Definitely Worth It

Very worth this tour as it’s included breakfast and lunch too. You can choose to pay extra for the horse ride or not. As someone might love to hike but not for us. Very responsive and informative guide as well as experienced driver provided. We departed at 4:30am in order to get the best weather for the Rainbow Mountains view. We back to Cusco about 3pm.

Unforgettable experience!!! Highly recommend

My boyfriend and I had big hopes to see Rainbow Mountain and lucked out with the best tour guide imaginable. They corresponded with us over email preparing us for everything. It’s an early wake up time, but they make it easy by picking you up right at your hotel (our guide Jose even knocked on our door to greet us). They had a blanket waiting for us in the car in case we got cold and prepped us for the journey ahead with enthusiasm. The car ride was smooth and comfortable to breakfast (about 1.5 hours from Cusco). We then rode up the mountain for another hour to arrive to the hiking starting point. The driver was great! Jose (our guide) pumped us up for the hike and even offered us key things to help with the altitude. He encouraged us the whole way!! It was snowing, but he kept us optimistic and it paid off!! He got us to the very top of the mountain and the colors ended up being spectacular! Where it was slippery and I was struggling in the snow, he fully helped me get up. I can honestly say I couldn’t have done it without him. We learned some things along the way about the local farming families, the sediments that make the colors, and the history of the land. This was an experience of a lifetime and I highly recommend doing it with Jose as your guide! He even took hundreds of awesome pictures of us! He was also so nice to everyone else climbing the mountain — such a good cheerleader. Couldn’t ask for more

Decent tour but weather is important

Solid tour, it's pretty much buying a private taxi to take you to the base of the mountain. You will have 1 stop for breakfast along the way. Its 1.5 hrs of paved road and 1.5 hrs of dirt. We then hiked for 1.5 hrs in very then air and muddy conditions. Arrived to the summit in a snowstorm. Needless to say, there was no seeing the rainbow color on the mountain as its was wet and half covered in snow. I did enjoy looking at the pebbles and creeks along the way and way back seeing the beautiful rocks and colors.

Rainbow Mountain - Full Day (Private Tour): questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cusco.

How much does Rainbow Mountain - Full Day (Private Tour) cost?

+

Prices start at $131 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cusco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Rainbow Mountain - Full Day (Private Tour) take?

+

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cusco is not rushed.

Is Rainbow Mountain - Full Day (Private Tour) worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 39 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Rainbow Mountain - Full Day (Private Tour)?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Rainbow Mountain - Full Day (Private Tour) suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 10-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Rainbow Mountain - Full Day (Private Tour)?

+

Around 14 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Rainbow Mountain - Full Day (Private Tour) start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cusco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cusco?

+

On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Peruvian Cooking Class Cocktails and Market Tour in Cusco, Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cusco?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cusco?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
