    ‼️Don’t Do This Boat Tour‼️

I am literally still on the boat writing this review. That is how bad this experience has been. We are a family of eight who rented this as a private boat charter. I have taken private boat charters in Turks & Caicos, Grand Cayman, St. Lucia, and the Seychelles. This was by far the least professional and least enjoyable I have ever experienced. The photographer was the sole exception. He was fantastic. But the photos are not included, it was $120 for the photos. We bought them as he really captured some great shots of the family. The tour started an hour late, and then they actually attempted to end it an hour early. I had to argue to receive the full amount of time we paid for. That alone speaks volumes about how this operation is run. The snorkeling portion was worse. There was no safety briefing and virtually no instruction whatsoever. No explanation of how to use or adjust the life vests or snorkeling equipment, how to enter the water, or how to safely get back onto the boat. We were so uncomfortable with the complete lack of guidance that even those of us with snorkeling experience questioned whether anyone on board was prepared to assist if something went wrong. It also did not help that the crew member responsible for snorkeling instructions did not speak English, even though the tour is explicitly advertised as being conducted in English. If you are selling snorkeling excursions to English-speaking customers and stating that English is the language of the tour, then ensuring basic safety instructions are actually delivered in English is not optional, it is your responsibility. And it certainly wasn’t because they were understaffed. There were four or five male crew members sitting and standing around, drinking liquor from the bar, eating food grilled for our charter, and socializing with each other as though THEY were on vacation. They seemed significantly more interested in enjoying our charter than actually providing it. I complained directly to the captain. Nothing changed. The captain was largely disengaged unless he was trying to sell us something extra: banana boat rides, hookah, etc. If he wasn’t upselling, he wasn’t saying much. Ironically, the most engaged I saw him with the group was when he walked around with the tip bucket at the end. The crew did not assist us at all getting on or off the boat. They also did almost nothing to facilitate an enjoyable experience. We essentially paid for a private charter so the crew could drink, eat our food, socialize, and occasionally try to sell us more things. I have traveled extensively and paid for private excursions around the world. I understand the difference between a relaxed Caribbean atmosphere and piss poor service. This was poor service. Save your money. There are other boat tours available from Puerto Plata. Choose one of them.

We booked this for our family during a cruise stop in Puerto Plata. Having the boat to ourselves was fantastic. The snorkeling was fun, the water was beautiful, and everyone from the kids to the grandparents had a great time. Definitely our favorite port day of the cruise.

Couldn't have asked for a better day.

There were eight of us celebrating a birthday during our vacation in Puerto Plata. The private boat was perfect for our group. We spent the afternoon laughing, snorkeling, and enjoying the ocean. Couldn't have asked for a better day.

    Puerto Plata

We booked this during our stay at a resort in Puerto Plata. The kids had a blast snorkeling and spending time on the boat. By the end of the trip, they were already asking if we could do it again. A great family activity.

Puerto Plata Private Boat Cruise with Snorkeling and Open Bar: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Plata.

How much does Puerto Plata Private Boat Cruise with Snorkeling and Open Bar cost?

    +

Prices start at $109 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Plata usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Puerto Plata Private Boat Cruise with Snorkeling and Open Bar take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Plata is not rushed.

Is Puerto Plata Private Boat Cruise with Snorkeling and Open Bar worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Plata, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Puerto Plata Private Boat Cruise with Snorkeling and Open Bar?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Puerto Plata Private Boat Cruise with Snorkeling and Open Bar suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Puerto Plata Private Boat Cruise with Snorkeling and Open Bar?

    +

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Plata can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Plata and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Puerto Plata Private Boat Cruise with Snorkeling and Open Bar start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Plata within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Puerto Plata?

    +

On Outty we rank every Puerto Plata experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Monkeyland and Zipline Adventure from Puerto Plata, Monkeyland Puerto Plata, Puerto Plata Highlights City Tours from amber cove and Taino bay. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Puerto Plata?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Puerto Plata?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
