About this experience
Operated by Senor Travel Bug, this is a variation on the 'classic' tour from Cancun and the Riviera Maya, replacing a visit to a cenote with a visit to a second Mayan archaeological site, Ek Balam. Get to know Mexico's Modern Wonder of the World, Chichen Itza, learning about a wide range of Mayan architectural, scientific and astronomical achievements. After spending the time you want at Chichen Itza, continue to Ek Balam, a second Mayan archaeological site and experience Mayan buildings in a very different way. Climb a pyramid, enter Mayan rooms within a temple and the palace, and see a totally different style of sculpture (stucco rather than stone) and see examples of Mayan glyphs, the first written language of the Americas. Finally, visit Valladolid, a Spanish colonial town with quaint streets, boutique shops and a cathedral on its charming main square. Choose the VW Beetle or a modern car, and the tour includes all photos by a former professional photographer at the end of the day.

Brilliant day out!
A fantastic day! Paul was very easy to deal with throughout, suggesting many options before we travelled to create a bespoke day. The day itself was amazing, and Paul's enthusiasm enhanced the experience. His flexibility meant that we could spend as much time as we wanted to at the sites and could explore things of interest to us whilst never feeling rushed. The day felt like a trip out with a friend, and we would recommend him to anyone and will book again should we come back to the Cancun region.
Response from the operator: Richard, thank you so much. I am so lucky to be doing a job where I can meet people such as yourselves, and fortunate too for the chance to chat about so many topics from our common experiences, and new topics. See you again somewhere some time hopefully.

Amazing tour with Paul/Senor Travel Bug
Paul exceeded our expectations in about every way. Was personable and knowledgeable, made it fun! Best tour ever! We had a big agenda and hit every stop and highlight. From seeing the magnificence and wonder of Chichen Itza, to taking fun/silly photos with my sisters, eating at hidden gems (he knows the best food places, I swear), taking a refreshing dip in a beautiful Cénote, stopped for a visit at the magical town of Vallodolid, ate some more, lol, and a adventurous trek up the pyramid at Ek Balam- all things we won’t ever forget. For the history lessons, the experiences, and making fun memories with my sisters- Paul and Senor Bug were ideal for our tour, I can’t say enough good things for the experience and hope to do it again, if I ever revisit the area.

Best Tour!!!
From start to finish Paul was an excellent host. I asked and he delivered. Paul shared his knowledge; so a great learning experience also. Even though it was a long day, I had the best time. He accommodated my requests on many issues. I highly recommend Paul as a tour guide. The pictures and video is an extra bonus especially as a solo traveller. Go ahead and book a tour with Paul. You won’t regret it!!! Thanks Paul. I had a great time and I appreciate the thought and detail of your hard work.
Response from the operator: Thank you very much, Jennifer, and yes, boy, what a long day it was. I'm glad though that you felt free to spend lots of time at all the sites you asked for, even though I'd never tried that much before in one day!!

Fantastic tour!
I would highly recommend this tour. Paul was very responsive when I was looking to book the tour. He was friendly, courteous and professional from the start. When it came to the actual tour - it was fantastic- Paul was informative and very engaging. I had done a tour of Chichen Itza before but Paul’s was much better - it gave more colour and context to the site. I thoroughly enjoyed my whole day. Paul went out of his way to ensure we were happy on the trip and took account of everyone’s needs and requirements.
Response from the operator: Thank you Stuart and what a full day we had! That was the first time I've tried to fit in Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, a cenote AND Valaldolid, but with the right company it's very enjoyable. I'm chuffed you found this better than your previous tour of Chichen Itza too - I like to think I do a good job of the tour there, bringing a wonder of the world to life. I'm delighted you were recommended to go with me. Thanks also to your friend.

Fantastic Tour Experience!!!
We had an incredible experience with Paul during our trip to Mexico. From start to finish, the service was absolutely five-star. He was so accommodating and genuinely attentive to how we were feeling on the day, adapting plans when needed. We had a great itinerary.. including Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Valladolid, cenotes, and snorkelling. There was also plenty of flexibility within the itinerary, which was perfect given how hot it could get some days. The whole experience felt personal, relaxed, and really well looked after. It was clear that Paul was passionate about sharing the beauty and culture of Mexico, and we felt like we were in the best hands. And as a great bonus Paul took amazing photos and videos for us throughout the day! Honestly, it was like having our own personal content creator… perfect for the memories and the socials! We highly recommend Paul!!
Response from the operator: What a joy it was to spend two days with the three of you. It's always such a pleasure to be able to tailor days to my guests and their interests, even their mood on the day and so it was very special to put together two days for you all, and adjust plans as we went. To swim with wild turtles, get to know several of our cenotes, and have new and unique bar experiences in Playa del Carmen, then to come back for more with Chichen Itza, climb pyramids in Ek Balam and eat locals' food in Kaua and Valladolid meant you truly saw lots of the best in this region.

Why this scores 59
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private VW Beetle Tour to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam & Valladolid: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cancun.
How much does Private VW Beetle Tour to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam & Valladolid cost?
+
Prices start at $250 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cancun usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private VW Beetle Tour to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam & Valladolid take?
+
Plan for about 13 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cancun is not rushed.
Is Private VW Beetle Tour to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam & Valladolid worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Cancun, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private VW Beetle Tour to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam & Valladolid?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private VW Beetle Tour to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam & Valladolid suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 13-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private VW Beetle Tour to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam & Valladolid?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cancun can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cancun and add a light layer if any part of the 13-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private VW Beetle Tour to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam & Valladolid start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cancun within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Cancun?
+
On Outty we rank every Cancun experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Early Access to Chichen Itza All Inclusive with Valladolid and Cenote Swim, Whale Shark Tour from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Riviera Maya, Small-Group 3 Hidden Cenotes Adventure with Tequila Tasting. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cancun?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cancun?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
