About this experience
Escape into one of Portugal’s best-kept secrets — a discreet retreat favored by artists, still off the tourist routes, where everything feels untouched, blending history, wine, raw nature and exclusivity. Step back into the Roman era while experiencing the understated luxury of Troia Marina, where ancient ruins meet a wild Atlantic coastline in perfect contrast. A ferry used by locals — where dolphins are sometimes seen — leads into a world that feels almost undiscovered. Discover Comporta — a place of secluded beach areas, often reached through private and local paths, where tradition still shapes everyday life. The Carrasqueira Palafitic Pier, one of Europe’s most unique wooden coastal structures, remains authentic and largely unknown. Savor local wines at Herdade da Comporta, reflecting the character of the region. A private, personalized, one-of-a-kind experience for travelers seeking something refined, authentic and exclusive — difficult to find without local knowledge.

The day felt like Portugal slowed down
We didn’t really know what to expect from Troia and Comporta, but this tour turned out to be one of the most distinctive days of our trip. What made it special was the feeling of space and calm. After Lisbon, everything suddenly felt wider and quieter: the ferry crossing, the coastline, the pine trees, the rice fields, the small roads and the simple beauty of the area. It didn’t feel polished for tourists, and that was exactly what we loved about it. Nidia guided the day beautifully. She gave us context when it mattered, but she never over-explained or rushed us from place to place. It felt more like being shown an area by someone who understands its rhythm, rather than being taken through a fixed itinerary. The Roman ruins were a really interesting contrast to the relaxed coastal atmosphere, and the Carrasqueira pier was probably the place that stayed with us the most. It is simple, unusual and incredibly atmospheric. Comporta itself has a quiet elegance that is hard to explain until you are there. It makes sense why people come here to disconnect. This tour is not about big monuments or crowded attractions. It is about landscape, history, wine, local life and a slower side of Portugal that most visitors probably miss. A very beautiful and memorable experience.

wonderful just wonderful...
A hidden gem completely different from Lisbon This tour was one of the most unexpected highlights of our trip. We had seen Lisbon and some of the more popular areas around it, but Troia and Comporta felt like a completely different world. The whole region has this quiet, untouched feeling that is hard to describe. It doesn’t feel touristy at all. There are wide open landscapes, beautiful beaches, small local details, and a calm atmosphere that makes you slow down without even trying. Nidia was a wonderful guide and made the day feel very natural. She knew exactly how to show us the area without making it feel rushed or overly structured. The ferry, the Roman ruins, the wooden pier and the wine tasting all felt connected to the place, not like random stops added to a tour. Comporta was probably the biggest surprise for us. It has this understated, relaxed beauty that feels very different from the usual tourist spots near Lisbon. By the end of the day, we completely understood why so many celebrities and people looking for privacy choose Comporta as a retreat. It feels exclusive, but in a quiet and authentic way. A beautiful, peaceful and very different experience. Highly recommended if you want to discover a side of Portugal that still feels like a real hidden gem.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your thoughtful review and for joining us on our Tróia & Comporta experience. Reading that this became one of the unexpected highlights of your trip truly means a lot to us. Tróia and Comporta are indeed very different from Lisbon and the more visited destinations, and one of the things we love most is introducing guests to this quieter, more authentic side of Portugal. We’re delighted that you connected with the region’s unique atmosphere, from the ferry crossing and Roman ruins to the traditional wooden pier, local wines, untouched landscapes, and beautiful beaches. These are the elements that make this corner of Portugal feel so special and unlike anywhere else. Thank you also for your kind words about Nídia. Creating experiences that feel natural, personal, and connected to the destination rather than simply moving from stop to stop is at the heart of what we do, so it is incredibly rewarding to know that this came across during your day with us. Comporta has a remarkable way of surprising people. Its understated beauty, authenticity, and sense of privacy are exactly why it has become such a sought-after retreat while still maintaining its local character and charm. Thank you once again for your recommendation. We hope to welcome you back soon to discover even more hidden gems and authentic experiences throughout Portugal. Warm regards, YES experiences PORTUGAL

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. What are the best things to do in Lisbon?
+
On Outty we rank every Lisbon experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Lisbon City Center Tour - The Unmissable Lisbon, Sintra Private Trip from Lisbon Customizable Dreamlike Experience, True 4Hour Private Tuk Tuk Tour: Discover Lisbon with a Local!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Lisbon?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Lisbon?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
