Fantastic

I had seen a lot of pictures of this road online but being there doesn’t compare. It is an amazing scenic route, perfect to get a quick escape from a busy city. Florin is an amazing guide, he is super friendly, speaks English very well and just makes the whole experience even better. Would totally recommend it!

    Great to See

Definitely something to check out. We were there in the summer and it was crowded with slow traffic. If you just know you won't be racing through the mountains at high speeds and enjoy the sights, it is fantastic. I would do it again!

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your review. Transfagarasan is indeed amazing!

    Great Road Tour

Last Friday, my wife and I went on one of the best road tours we have ever taken. The tour with driver/guide Alex, was to the Transfagarasan region which we discovered to be extremely scenic. Alex provided a very complete and good natured commentary during the more than 500 km trip. We highly recommend both the tour and Alex. The entire experience was great.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your review! We are very happy you had such a pleasant experience with our guide.

    Close to gods.

I was in Romania few times. I was really very busy and did not have time to see the country. But finally I set aside a week to go around. I started my trip in Bucharest going to CURTEA DE ARGES, VIDRARU, TRANSFAGARASAN, SIGHISOARA,BRASOV,SINAIA,BUCHAREST. The highway is breath taking and if you visit Romania make sure to take this trip. You will have memories to last all your life.

I cannot speak more highly about...

I cannot speak more highly about this tour and our guide, Chip, who was a wonderful companion throughout our day visiting Vlad the Impaler's Citadel, the Transfagarasan Road, the lake at the top, and the monastery where the Romanian royal family is buried. This is a MUST tour for anyone wanting to experience the real Romania. The Citadel involves a long climb over 1500 steps but Chip was very patient and gave us ample time to reach the top. The views from the Citadel are breathtaking. After lunch, we drove up along the famous Transfagarasan Road which Top Gear has named the most beautiful road in the world. They were right! No words can explain the experience of viewing this road. Chip, our guide, gave us ample stops to take photographs and take in the sheer wonder of this landscape. The lake at the top is also a bucket list experience. Chip was entirely at our disposal and was eager to make our trip as memorable as possible. He is extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and a joy to spend the day with touring through the Romanian countryside. He has his own car and is able to offer Wifi free of charge, which allowed us to send our pics to family via WhatsApp whilst on our journey. His English is perfect and he clearly loves his job. DO THIS TOUR !!!

Private Transfagarasan Road Scenic Tour from Bucharest: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bucharest.

How much does Private Transfagarasan Road Scenic Tour from Bucharest cost?

    +

Prices start at $110 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bucharest usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Transfagarasan Road Scenic Tour from Bucharest take?

    +

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bucharest is not rushed.

Is Private Transfagarasan Road Scenic Tour from Bucharest worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Bucharest, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Transfagarasan Road Scenic Tour from Bucharest?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Private Transfagarasan Road Scenic Tour from Bucharest suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Transfagarasan Road Scenic Tour from Bucharest?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bucharest can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bucharest and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Transfagarasan Road Scenic Tour from Bucharest start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bucharest within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Bucharest?

    +

On Outty we rank every Bucharest experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Real tour of Communism, Bucharest Highlights Walking Tour, Top Gear Road, Small-group max 7 pax with Pick-up, Transfăgărăşan. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Bucharest?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Bucharest?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
