Pleasant Surprise!

I stumbled on cognac houses by mistake, thinking these were wineries, however it was a very positive experience! Bordeaux was our favourite for the cognac variety - we learned the whole making process and got to try all from Bourdeilles to Bordeaux!

Worse tour ever! Do not book!!!

We have a lot of experience hiring trips via Viator, both in Europe and our home country of America. This “luxury cognac tour” is by far the most expense, and the very worst, Viator trip we have ever booked. Avoid this guided trip, and the company behind it, Tour Up in Europe, at all costs. And Viator, if you cared about the customer experience at all, you should block them from your website. So, what made this trip awful? The guide and driver were the same person, but they performed both roles and deserve to be rated in each. Driver: Overall Grade is F • The driver was easily distracted and a poor driver. A very bad combination. He would follow much too closely and pull out into oncoming traffic. An accident was only prevented on multiple occasions because of the car’s automatic braking system. • He did not know the region or areas that we were in and constantly missed turns and destinations. Guide: Overall Grade is F • It was a Cognac tour and he knew nothing about cognac or the region we were in. • He didn’t know the area so couldn’t plan. Everything, other than the previously arranged cognac tours, were done at the last minute and in a haphazard and reckless fashion. • Lunch was a last-minute affair with him taking us to places that were booked or closed. When we finally got lunch, it was hardly a class place, and not what you would expect for a “luxury” experience. • He put no planning into this trip and didn’t have the knowledge to do so even if he had tried. Tour: Overall Grade is F- • We paid extra for a luxury car, but I suspect the driver waited until the last minute to book it, so we ended up with a Ford Mustang. In my mind a Ford Mustang is not a luxury car. As I said above, the most expensive and worse Viator trip we have ever had. We have Booked Viator trips throughout Europe over the years and we do know that most services are professional, courteous, and well prepared. Nothing about this trip was that.

Response from the operator: The company acknowledges the customer's dissatisfaction but finds the refund request unwarranted. The tour was conducted in a new Mustang Mach-e, a premium vehicle that ensured both comfort and safety. The itinerary included visits to two of the most renowned Cognac houses, as described, with tastings included. Due to the hot weather, it was suggested to adjust the tour to include a scenic drive and a visit to the nearby village of Saint Emilion, a renowned wine destination, at no additional cost. It is not stated in the tour description that the company is obliged to book a restaurant for lunch in advance. However, the company does accommodate such requests for customers who ask, as a complimentary service. In this case, the customer did not respond to the initial message — "hello, what are your particular interests to tailor the tour for you even better" — sent before the tour. As a result, on the day of the tour, restaurant options had to be searched for, and unfortunately, the customer’s preferred places were fully booked. Throughout the trip, refreshments, including water, soda, and iced tea, were made available in the vehicle. All services were delivered as advertised, and efforts were made to ensure a high-quality experience, despite the customer’s claims.

Cognac with Tour Up in Europe ❤️

It was a very decent experience, with a wonderful guide who new so much about the region. We even had some time to pass Saint Emilien on our way back. the tour at each cognac house was with a knowledgable sommelier. The tastings - mmmm, so good, especially my grandfather appreciated it, who is a fan of Cognac #1. Thanks to this supplier we had an unforgettable day and my grandparents managed to see something that they were dreaming of.

How much does Private tour to Cognac - a delight for discerning gourmets cost?

How long does Private tour to Cognac - a delight for discerning gourmets take?

+

Plan for about 13 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bordeaux is not rushed.

Is Private tour to Cognac - a delight for discerning gourmets worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 49 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bordeaux, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Is Private tour to Cognac - a delight for discerning gourmets suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 13-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private tour to Cognac - a delight for discerning gourmets?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bordeaux can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bordeaux and add a light layer if any part of the 13-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private tour to Cognac - a delight for discerning gourmets start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bordeaux within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Bordeaux?

+

On Outty we rank every Bordeaux experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Saint-Emilion Electric Bike Day Tour with Wine Tastings & Lunch, Saint-Émilion Afternoon Tour - 2 Grand crus & French apéritif, "Bordeaux by bicycle: a 3-hour tour immersive experience". The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Bordeaux?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Bordeaux?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
