About this experience
Discover the fascinating history of the Maya at Muyil, a spectacular ancient city in the middle of the jungle. The ruins of Muyil are hidden gem to visit in the region, our expert guides will lead you through this wonderful site with tales of calendars, ceremony and Spanish invaders. Once we reach the Muyil lagoon, we take a boat across two lagoons connected by an artificial canal that has been in use for many centuries. Xlapak is the name of the building at the beginning of the lazy river and the start of an incredible floating experience in crystal clear pluvial water on its way to the Caribbean Sea. We float for over 30 minutes surrounded by mangroves, orchids, bromeliads and cacti while we hear the sounds of nature. A delicious Mexican food tasting is included to end the tour.

A most excellent tour and tour guide!
Cesar was our tour guide, and he made this a really special experience. He was very knowledgeable, kind, friendly, and he obviously enjoyed being our guide. Super positive experience with him. He should get a raise! The tour itself was better than I expected, and my expectations were high. The Tulum ruins were incredible. It covered a much larger area and was more developed than I expected. Cesar helped us understand what life was like there at that time. The second half of the tour, where we went to Sian Ka’an and floated down a channel through the mangroves was an unforgettable experience. I feel like my wife and I watered able to experience some of the jewels of Mexico. I am grateful, and I would love to come back and see more.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for such a heartfelt review! We're truly happy to hear how meaningful this experience was for you and your wife. Cesar will be especially grateful for your kind words—his passion for sharing the history and culture of the region really shines through, and it’s wonderful to know it made such an impact. Combining the Tulum ruins with the peaceful float through the mangroves of Sian Ka’an is definitely something special, and we’re glad you got to experience both sides. We’d love to welcome you back anytime to discover even more of what this region has to offer!

Ask for Alonzo to be your tour guide!
Alonzo was our tour guide. He was friendly, attentive, and kind. The best your guide one can ask to learn more about Mexico’s heritage in a day. He made sure we had all we needed to enjoy the tour. The tours were great. The archeological site and museum were one of the best international sites I’ve been to. Floating in the canals was a dream. Had the chillest best time with my trip partner. One piece of feedback for the tour company is to ask guests is they have any dietary restrictions. We could not eat at the restaurant that was selected because we dont eat pork.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed review! It’s wonderful to hear that Alonzo made your experience so special with his friendly, attentive, and kind approach. His passion for sharing Mexico’s heritage clearly left a lasting impression. The archeological site and museum sound like a world-class experience, and floating in the canals must have been pure magic—especially with such a chill and enjoyable vibe. Your feedback about dietary restrictions is incredibly valuable. We’ll make sure to pass this along to the tour company so they can better accommodate all guests in the future. If you ever return, we’d love to welcome you back for more unforgettable adventures.

Why this scores 66
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private tour of Muyil Archaeological Site & Sian Ka'an Lazy River: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tulum.
How much does Private tour of Muyil Archaeological Site & Sian Ka'an Lazy River cost?
+
Prices start at $479 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tulum usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private tour of Muyil Archaeological Site & Sian Ka'an Lazy River take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tulum is not rushed.
Is Private tour of Muyil Archaeological Site & Sian Ka'an Lazy River worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 48 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tulum, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private tour of Muyil Archaeological Site & Sian Ka'an Lazy River?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private tour of Muyil Archaeological Site & Sian Ka'an Lazy River suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private tour of Muyil Archaeological Site & Sian Ka'an Lazy River?
+
Around 17 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tulum can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tulum and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private tour of Muyil Archaeological Site & Sian Ka'an Lazy River start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tulum within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tulum?
+
On Outty we rank every Tulum experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tulum Ruins, Turtles in Akumal and Cenote tour, Tulum Guided Tour, Magical Cenote, Lagoon Snorkeling and Beachside Lunch, Chichén Itzá, Cenote and Valladolid with Lunch and transportation. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tulum?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tulum?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
