About this experience
The open garbage dump was operating from 1977 to 1984 and the people living around the trash used everything they found in the garbage and became experts in recycling, built their homes with the material and made anything possible to get an income out of the trash. Due to Colombia’s armed conflict more and more refugees arrived in Moravia, located right next to the city center. Moravia is known for its strong community spirit and the positive attitude of its people. Plenty of local community-run projects have transformed Moravia into a model urban centre, with the mound of trash turned into a garden-covered hillside. On this tour meet personally local leaders of Moravia that provide you with unique insider information about the barrio, its people, and history. Visit Moravia neighborhood with Palenque Tours! You will love it!
I'm from Colombia but I was doing 4 different tours with Palenque Tours Colombia because my friend from Germany was visiting my country and I wanted to show her the best of the best with off-the-bitten track places and experiences. This tour was one of those that I would not have been able to carry out if it weren't for Palenque's help. The guides (the bilingual and local guide) were amazing, they were very informative, and they were always open to resolve all our questions. We visited the entire neighborhood and we shared with the local community. This is one of those tours that touch your heart and makes a change in your life (even when I'm Colombian!). Thank you palenque for organizing everything! We really enjoy it!
Response from the operator: Dear Sebastián, thank you for your feedback, Moravia is a neighborhood that has undergone an amazing transformation, it is one of the great examples of the rebirth of Medellin.

+

How far in advance should I book Private tour: Community Immersion at the Moravia Barrio in Medellin?
+
Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Medellín can sell out a month out. What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Medellín and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

+

What are the best things to do in Medellín?
+
On Outty we rank every Medellín experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Guatapé Tour: Piedra del Peñol with Boat Tour, Breakfast, Lunch, Half Day Bike Tour in Medellin - Local snack, Coffee or Beer, Guided Tour of Comuna 13 Medellín with Snacks Included. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Medellín?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Medellín?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
