    We had a wonderful...

We had a wonderful cooking experience with Shiori-san in Sapporo! It was much more than just a cooking class. We enjoyed her warm hospitality, the cultural exchange, and the opportunity to learn more about Japanese traditions. Shiori-san was very welcoming, friendly, and an excellent communicator. A truly memorable experience that we highly recommend!

    This wasn't just a sushi...

This wasn't just a sushi class. It was an evening in a real Japanese home. Shiori welcomed us into her private house, where we made sushi at her own table and met her family, who were warm and genuinely happy to have us. Shiori is a wonderful guide: patient, funny, and easy to talk with. She explained each step clearly, and the conversation flowed as naturally as it would with a new friend, covering food, daily life, and Japanese culture. Trying on a kimono was a lovely surprise and made the night feel even more special. By the end, Shiori had invited us back to explore other parts of Hokkaido with her, which says everything about how welcoming she is.If you want something authentic and personal instead of a standard tourist class, book this. Highly recommended!

Perfect Expert Sushi making and Japanese cooking experience

Perfect class. I took the class with my 24 year old daughter. I’m a home cook who loves Japanese cuisine. Shiori is a professional chef with lots of teaching experience. She genuinely wants you to be successful and has adapted her recipes with tricks that make it easier while maintaining top notch taste and presentation. My daughter and I can’t wait to try her home style sushi approach at a family gathering we’re having in a week. Aside from the lesson, she prepared a once in a lifetime meal fit for an emperor. It was quite unbelievable, everything was so good and plentiful that I don’t think I’ll have to eat for a week. Ingredients were top rate, which is a basic requirement for a top chef. On top of all this, she was so kind that she made us feel like close family/friends even sharing some family history and showing Japanese cultural “treasures” that my daughter and I showed interest in. She has significant international experience and her English is great. As a foodie and serious home chef, I have been to many cooking classes around the world and if I could, I would rate this a perfect experience. Learn and enjoy with confidence, if you are lucky enough to be able to book Shiori’s class!

    Shiori is the best

From start to finish Shiori was so friendly, it was like an aunty picking us up from the station. We learnt how to make sushi from scratch and she explains all the ingredients and then she served us an absolute banquet too! I think we had about 7/8 courses in the end. We even briefly met her family as it was in her home. She offered for me to try on her grandmothers kimono and it was really special. The day was just great, highlight of our trip to Hokkaido. Would recommend for all abilities too. Shiori is the best!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We're delighted to hear that your time with Shiori was a highlight of your trip to Hokkaido. It’s wonderful to know that she made you feel so welcome from the moment you met, and that you enjoyed learning to make sushi from scratch while discovering more about the ingredients and Japanese cuisine. We're also so glad you had the chance to experience her warm hospitality, from sharing a delicious multi course meal to trying on her grandmother's kimono and briefly meeting her family. Those personal moments are what make these experiences so memorable. Thank you for your kind recommendation. We’ll be sure to share your lovely words with Shiori, and we hope to welcome you on another Traveling Spoon experience during your future travels!

Private Sushi Roll & Japanese Cooking Class with Chef Shiori: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Sapporo.

How much does Private Sushi Roll & Japanese Cooking Class with Chef Shiori cost?

    +

Prices start at $108 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Sapporo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Sushi Roll & Japanese Cooking Class with Chef Shiori take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Sapporo is not rushed.

Is Private Sushi Roll & Japanese Cooking Class with Chef Shiori worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 79 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 44 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Sapporo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Sushi Roll & Japanese Cooking Class with Chef Shiori?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Sushi Roll & Japanese Cooking Class with Chef Shiori suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Sushi Roll & Japanese Cooking Class with Chef Shiori?

    +

Around 15 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Sapporo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Sapporo and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Sushi Roll & Japanese Cooking Class with Chef Shiori start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Sapporo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Sapporo?

    +

On Outty we rank every Sapporo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sapporo Bar Hopping Food Tour, Wagashi traditional japanese sweets class, Mondo's most popular No.1!Private experienceThe king of buckwheat noodles making and Japanese food in Sapporo!A plan to enjoy tempura!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Sapporo?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Sapporo?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
